Loose motion after long run

Hi all, this is a probably a weird thing. It has happened a few times with me. I ran about 4 miles at a stretch at 5.8 mph on a treadmill. I generally do this once a week mixed with weight training and interval training on other days. I started working out 2 months back mainly to loose fat and I have lost about 10 pounds in this time. Strange thing is my stomach gets upset after those long runs. I get loose motion only on that night or next morning. Earlier I thought I might have eaten something bad but then I confirmed that I am not eating anything bad on those days. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Could be that you are dehydrated or that you are just pushing yourself extremely hard.

some people experience upset stomach when running... but usually when they exceed 1 hour of running... as for getting "loose motion" I'll assume you are talking about loose bowl movement? if you were getting dehydrated then the problem would more likely be constipation...

running definitely gets things moving... you should watch what you eat and drink before and after your run... watch out for really sugary things... even sports drinks... also high fiber food an hour or so before your run could help... like oatmeal... I'm just going by what folks say who I run with about this issue... don't have it myself but sometimes I have to listen to conversations about stuff I rather not know about ;-) when I run with my running club...

I was thinking about this and sometimes dehydrated runners do suffer from nausea and diarrhea... as backwards as that seams...

microwave was probably pointing you in the right direction...

But you are not running that long... under 1 hour... to get dehydrated... but then again if you start underhydrated... or are already a bit dehydrated when you start...
