Can someone give me a sample of their diet and exercise plan just so I can get a general idea??? Any certain foods that will really boost the metabolism?? I am looking to lose about 30 pounds, but don't want to go at it the wrong way and waste my time. Any advice or links that anyone could provide would be awesome. Thanks!!!

Well posting links is against forum policy, but we do allow this one... you could try to keep track of your calorie intake.

THere are lots of stickies around the forum you should read! they're full of info about how to lose weight the right way!

I like to eat a diet high in fiber. Fiber creates a feeling of fullness, yet it has no calories. That's why you could eat a piece of whole wheat bread (high in fiber,) and feel much more full/satisfied than you would with a piece of white bread of the same calories.

This is obviously good for the purpose of reducing calorie intake. The bonus is that it also "tricks" your body into thinking it's eating more food (calories) than it is. This will boost your fat-burning machine (your metabolism) and cause you to burn even more calories, too.

Foods high in fiber come from plant sources: whole grains, beans, legumes, fruit, vegetables.

Best wishes!

i and welcome.

Here are my suggestions for getting started.

The first thing I'd suggest is registering for a free account on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and starting to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

The next thing I'd suggest is checking out the various sticky posts in the exercise area of the forum (Weight Loss Through Exercise - Weight Loss Forum). There are some very good posts on exercise, both cardio/aerobic and on incorporating weight lifting into your exercise plans.

I'd also suggest starting a diary in the weight loss diary area (Weight Loss Diary - Weight Loss Forum) as well as reading and participating in other diaries. This is a good way to make updates to your progress and to get support from others. It helps to find the diaries of people who have successfully lost weight (or are losing weight) and reading through them as well. Following the diaries of those who have been successful is both inspiring and informative.

Finally, I'd say you should read as much as you can of the posts on the board, especially anything that's marked "sticky". There is a ton of good information around here and a lot of times questions that new folks have has already been answered very thoroughly - so do take the time to look around and read. :)

Hope that helps you to get started.

There's not really any magic bullets, but there are things to avoid. For me in a nutshell, its 'white ain't right', meaning refined sugar, white rice, white flour, solid fats (ever notice beef & chicken fat look a lot alike?), etc is pretty much out. Milk is ok in very moderate amounts but that's about it for that. That and the basic 'burn more than you eat' as far as calories is a key.

Next, exercise... gotta do it if you're not, and not just walking around the block a few times. something that makes you sweat and breathe heavy for 30 minutes straight that doesn't include the playboy channel or spice network. while this burns only a trivial amount of calories, for one, it builds up, but also increases your insulin sensitivity (good thing) which helps your cells process energy and thus burn it. That's the thing a lot of people seem to mistake for 'pumping up their metabolism'. At least to me.

sleep - get some. this is when a lot of the magic happens, and also when your body replenishes its energy. if it doesn't get its full rest, it looks for other energy sources.. like.. more food.
