Ive been dieting and training for about 3 months and have gone from 266 to 224 pounds. im looking to get to 196.
Im eating approx 1500-2000 calories a day. Abouy 50% protein, 30% carbs and 20% fat. Im training 1 hour cardio a day h.i.i.t. 6 days a week and some weight training most days. Just looking for some advice about training and nutrition you guys might have picked up. thanks:waving:

How do define HIIT?

Okay, then can you clarify exactly what you're doing please?

Are you doing 1 hour of what you call HIIT 6 times per week?

Or are you doing an hour of cardio per day and HIIT 6 times per week.

In any event, it's overkill in my opinion.

If you're doing cardio for an hour, it's not HIIT. I'd simply call it interval training. Yea, I know it sounds like I'm being nitpicky but true HIIT doesn't last longer than 15 minutes.

It's not that what's you're doing is wrong...

It's that it's not really HIIT.

In general for those interested in losing fat and preserving muscle, lifting 2-3 times per week is sufficient.

On the cardio side of things, it really varies from person to person. Cardio every single day is permissible but I wouldn't suggest it. I certainly wouldn't suggest high intensity cardio every single day.

I generally suggest 3-5 days per week of varying intensities... some steady state and some intervals.

If you feel the need to do more than that, something is most likely off with your nutrition.

ahh i see what you mean now. I do in in 2 lots of 30 mins so its not an hour solid. As for nutrition i think i have a fairly good diet, i try and make sure i balance it out but sometimes its not possible. As for the frequency of the training i think atm its just willpower and the will to hit my goal weight thats spuring me on. Your not knitpicking i think it was a bit of crossed wires. I origionally posted this looking for some nutritional tips. Balance of protein againest fat ect.. or little training techniques that have worked well for people that wouldnt be immediatly obvious:)

My original concern is that you're doing too much in the gym. This is possible, ya know?

With diet, again speaking in generalities... I tend to stick with the old 1 gram of protein per pound of goal weight, 20-30% of total cals coming from fat (mostly the good stuff) and the rest is really a wild card depending on the individual and circumstances. Some can fill the rest in with carbs. Some need to split up between more fats and some carbs.

Calories always need to be determined first, obviously.

Yeah thats near enough to what im doing atm. im eating near enough to that amount of protein and about 20% fat from nuts and fish. Rest from carbs such as wholemeal bread and lots of fruit. Ill take your advise and cut down to 4 or 5 times a week cardio with some lifting thrown in.

What worked for me was joining the Marine Corps...althought I dont recommend joining for the sake of getting in shape...but then again its not a bad plan :smilielol5:

who doesn't eat SPAM? THat stuffs great. I try to get at least half of my protein per day for spam. It's really a miracle meat!!!

Did you eat a lot of spam in the Marines?

Haha yeah, cuz I certainly earn a HUGE commission by word of mouth on internet forums... seriously dude, the joke was obviously a little too subtle for you
