Hey, I'm a 14 year old boy with a little overweight problem. In the coming year I'm making a resolution to diet a little bit and start exercising more regularly. Here are my plans: A small breakfast without cereals, Lunch and dinner like normal but no overeating, No candy or sodas, 30 minutes daily on an Elliptical machine or some other form of cardio exercise. I really just want to drop some belly and chest weight. If I kept this up, would this eventually take off some of those extra pounds?

Why no cereals with breakfast?

No candy and soda your teeth will definitely appreciate.

Given your age, I strongly suggest you having a discussion with your parents or guardians about your goals. Your body is still growing, changing and developing and you need proper nutrition to grow big and strong...

it's never too early to watch your diet and participate in sports... but you also don't want to get too obsessive over it and make sure you are eating enough

Hey and welcome! I'm sure someone can tell you much better than me... but my advice is don't give up cereal - especially being 14...eat healthy and in moderation but you can still have the foods you want! I've also learned that you should have a decent sized breakfast so that you don't over-eat later in the day. I'm sure the no sodas thing and limited candy would help, and I know for SURE that the exercise is good for you. Good luck! :)

Hey, good work trying to get started on a fitness program! It's hard work, but it's definitely worth it for your health (and for the ladies...:D)

The no candy or sodas is a really great rule. I know tons of people who have dropped weight just from cutting Coke and candy out of their diets. They're good every once in awhile, but they really aren't nutritionally intended to be part of an everyday diet. (Advertisers might intend them to be, but seriously, if you think about it, they're not even real food. Just sugar and syrups.)

Make sure to eat a good-sized breakfast, 'cause it's the most important meal of the day! It should actually be your largest meal in theory I think, but lots of people (including me) have trouble doing that, so just making sure it's a substantial meal is a good start.

Cereals (Total, Special K, etc...) are actually a great thing to have first thing in the morning. Just try to avoid junk cereals (Sugar Smacks, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, that sort of thing...)

Cardio every day is a great thing for losing weight, but if you want you could also try to work in some weight training. It'll help you lose weight as well.

Good luck!! :)

Nice thread necromancy

The 14 year old kid should be about 17 now.
