Welcome Steve!

As a personal trainer, I always tell people who work with me the two most important things in weight loss/body composition:

  1. A good diet controls fat loss/weight loss
  2. A good exercise program shapes the body into what you want it to look like
  3. No exercise program will out do a bad diet
I'm sure that underneath the chubbiness you have a rock hard physique. I work with plenty of clients who could lift mountains if they tried, but still are heavy and "look like they havn't lost a pound in years." For you, I would continue to work out and lift, but focus more of your energy on your diet. Feel free to ask any questions as a follow up to this. Keep going strong!
