Lets talk water and stomach

New to exercising and new to forums. (first post ever!) Just wanted to introduce myself and my talking belly.

Female
age 26
weight 118-123 lbs
Mommy
Goal: Not trying to lose weight or gain weight, just want to defy gravity as I age, and maintain a healthy routine and exercise for life.

So, I've been jogging everyday for a month now. I told myself I wouldn't post anything until I was committed for a whole month. Here it goes: If I drink water and run, I hear the water sploshing around in my stomach and get side aches. If I don't drink water and run I still get the occasional side ache, just not as often.
Whats the deal? How can I keep my stomach happy and quiet? Also, is there anyway to avoid side aches? I seem to get them very easy, like just from walking and it's really putting a damper on my routine.

Take small sips rather than large gulps

My experience with the side stitches is that (a) you are running/moving harder than your body can handle or, (b) more likely your form is a little off and you are not breathing properly. For me, that usually means my arms are crossing in front of my body too much, and I am more twisting at the waist than running with a solid, straight torso. Try holding your arms more at your sides, and hopefully that will help clear up the side cramps.

As for the water, sometimes my stomach feels like that if I ate (relatively) recently prior to running. It may be simplistic, but an empty stomach means less stress on your body as you bound up and down. Also, as previously mentioned, more sipping of water should help. I know, though, that the sloshing sound does not represent a fluid-filled stomach per se, but more a stomach and intestines filled with food and/or waste.

Thanks you all have been helpful.
And I am 5'5
I agree w/ you JDTECHIE, I have noticed when I run with my palms flat on each side of my bellybutton the pain will somewhat decrease.
As for the sloshing sound, I agree again. It is most likely food/waste. Im embarrassed to say this but, I don't poop daily. Never have been one to poop everyday. I'm more like once or twice a week. So this explains it perfectly.

Now that you all know about my bowels...... LOL

Once or twice a week? How many calories do you eat? Sounds like you need some fiber!!

I go twice, maybe three times a day. That must seem like a full-time job to you LOL

I once heard that if you're having side stitches pay attention to which foot is falling as you exhale and consciously switch it. I don't know if there's anything to it or it's just a silly myth, but it's supposed to help

I second that "EAT SOME FIBRE!!!" statement.

Try having a prune or two with breakfast. If you absolutely can't tolerate prunes (I know they're pretty disgusting), eat a handful of blueberries, and grind up some flax seeds and mix them in with one of the meals you eat every day. Flax seeds are only good fibre when they're ground up, btw. Eating them whole won't help.

As for the splooshing sound, do you drink water regularly? If you only drink when you work out, your body could be in dehydration mode and trying to save the water and digest it as slowly as possible. Make sure you're drinking at least 6 glasses of water a day (8 is ideal, but if you're not drinking enough that jump can be a bit too drastic).

Buy a jug and fill it every morning with water. Make sure it's empty by the end of the night. When you work out, don't take water out of the jug - your body needs extra for workouts.

yep two poops a day for me as well. The only time I havent followed that pattern is when I was on a tramp and was walking all day for about 8 days didnt poop for 5 very strange indeed.

i only go once every couple days, more than once a day is absurd, that would suck having to poo all the time.

Oh and dont assume it's because of dehydration, fibre etc, because that really isn't the case.

oh i forgot to add that there's something called a rectum, who's purpose is to store poo. It doesn'y have to go in and out straight away ;p

But yeah exercise helps to, it increases peristalsis, which is probably why exercise significantly reduces colon cancer.

I don't have a poo problem. Like I said, I've always been like this, my mom is like this too. But I can only imagine what once or twice a week must sound like to someone who has to poop after every meal. Now, my husband was put on a high fiber diet a while back, so i was definitely consuming much more fiber as well as the supplemental kind that you mix in OJ, just to see if I would become a daily pooper. (He thinks my pooping is odd too.) But the only difference that made was in the texture of my poo. (Please don't make me get into the details of that.)
I appreciate all of your concerns in my pooping routine, but my question was on my talking stomach, never has my stomach said "Splish splosh you need to poo more Splish splosh" Except for that one time in Mexico. Which, by the way is the only guaranteed way to lose 15 pounds in 1 day with out diet or exercise. Guaranteed I swear, Just drink the water.
Back to my water intake now, I drink a tall cup of coffee in the morning, and then water throughout the remainder of the day. (Thats all I drink, no soda, no milk, occasionally I'll have apple or orange juice.) I think I have come to the conclusion to not drink anything like an hour prior to my run. Then after my run drink drink drink.
Thank you all for your help, and poo concerns.:)

Most docs say 1-3 times a day is normal, but you can have your own version of "normal" I just can't imagine! LOL

I don't know about the sloshing. Try that trick about the side stitches

I'm with you Gooch, i'm in the bathroom so often i just bring my guitar in there with me :D
