length of running

Hi all.
I have been running regulary every evening for 2 months and i am going to continue my running work out. But i am afraid to injure myself, becouse i can't control my heart rate during the running and i don't know when i should stop. Moreover i had virus hepatit 12 years ago and hard physical exercises were forbidden for me. Now sometimes i feel an stitch. (Althought everybody, who i asked, feels the same during the running irrespective of the health of their liver=) )
Can anybody advice me how to find out when i should stop running and start to walk or slacken my pace and when i should continue despite tiredness?

First things first - has your doctor cleared you to exercise now?

Yes the most of them say that I can exercise now and usually I dont feel any discomfort. I just doubt about the limits. Should i stop when i feel ache or not, becouse my teacher in university says that i should 'train' my liver also and soon i'll be able to run much longer without any ache.

Good. Got the medical clearance out of the way.

Now, onto to your question... First, you should think of running effort as time, not distance. If you are not a conditioned runner, your heart rate is going to spike quickly and you will be gasping for air. When that happens, stop running and walk until your breathing is under control. Then resume running. You should also try to run as slowly as you can to keep your heart rate and breathing under control. As you become more fit, you will be able to go longer distances with fewer rest stops and at faster paces. I am no fitness machine, but I do half marathons without a rest stop.

=) Thank you. I ususally do like that: walk when I start gasping for air and then resume running; but i was not sure if it is properly. Now I will continue my "running with walking" without any doubts and improve my pace and time of running )

I want to know how much running is good for you on daily basis . My goal is to stay fit . I got no concern with weight loss or gain . I just want to stay fit and healthy .

Varies drastically from person to person. Some factors involved with deciding that include current fitness level, caloric intake, other activities that have increase your caloric expenditure throughout the day, medical limitations, frequency/intensity/duration of the run, just to name a few.

It's usually recommended to get at least 3 moderately intense aerobic sessions of 30-60 minutes a week. Good way of monitoring intensity is through heart rate % of your maximum. 40-60% of your max would fall into that category of moderate intensity.

What kind of factors . . . ?
