Leg Raises Issue

So I consider myself to be in pretty good shape. I lift around 4 times a week, do core work like bench and squat and whatnot, do my abs well also. However, I cannot seem to do a HANGING leg raise for the life of me. I know my core is strong enough, should be at least, but I always swing too much. I see people who are visibly in worse shape than I am doing them though.

I have been doing leg raises on a dip machine where my elbows and forearm are rested on a pad (if that helps visually), and I am hoping I can work up to hanging leg raises, but I'm not sure.

Any advice? Thanks.

Are you trying to do them with your legs straight or bent? With or without straps?

If you can do them on the dip stand then your hip flexors and abs are plenty strong enough. It sounds like the problem is in your arms, back, shoulders, etc. not being strong enough to stabalize you (or you not being coordinated enough to properly flex all the stuff that needs to be flexed to stabalize you). How many pullups can you do? I would suggest working on pullups as well as bench press, bent rows, pulldowns, etc. Maybe if you could get someone to put their arm behind your lower back while you do them to help hold you until you get the feel for it better?

Try first the basic leg raises wherein your back is flat on the floor. This can certainly strengthen your lower abs.

Sorry I'm just replying to this now. It's definitely not my coordination. Maybe it is my back strength though? I can do about 15 pull-ups (chin-ups) in 1 set. I usually do a few sets of 10. I can do about 10 if I'm using front grip...Thanks for the help
