HI there!

I thought it would be fun to have someone to share this challenge with. Fitness mag. has a starting to run routine, so I thought I would try to follow it and see how it goes.

I am a SAHM a 3year old and 7month old. I used to love my treadmill but haven't been on it in a long tiime. It actually is in pieces right now because we moved, but this week sometime I am getting my Dh to put it together.:)

I think jogging/walking is a great way to lose weight and I lost 25lbs after I had my ds from walking/jogging on the treadmill. Now, I need to do it again with Dd, I have 15lbs to lose.

So, it would be nice to have someone to chat with to share goals and stories with.

if you google on "Couch to 5K" you'll find a bunch of helpful stuff... has an awesome site that claims it will have your running 3 miles in 2 months :D

It includes a really good looking schedule on what you should be doing to m ake your goal.

Hi Ladies! Thanks for the welcome!

I have started running this week. So, far so good! Thanks for the info! I have looked at the "couch to 5k" before and it is a good guide. I have found a couple running sites now that have cool stuff. As for a schedual, I think I prefer kind of setting my own pace and increasing as I feel able.

i dont run unless someone is chasing me! i usually just stick to the eliptical. But, someday...oh yes someday. I will be out jogging with a sportsbra and short shorts!

I love to run!

I love to run and share running stories! I'm 20 lbs overweight but that doesnt stop me from running 15-20 miles per week. At one time I took second place in a race,,,,now I'm happy to complete them. I do have goals of getting back into 7 min mile pace and 35 miles per week.

Hi Ladies!

I am a treadmill runner right now, but hope in the spring to be running outside and try a 1/2 marathon.

Good job Missysissy on the running!

Hi guys

Have lost 100lbs over the last year from running on the streets of Glasgow, at the cost of my IT band and my sanity :) Recently moved to the treadmill.. With a friend at my side and a TV in front of me all is well, and running seems fun again...

All the best from a Scottish ex-fatty..lol

Iain

EDIT - Go the mighty Fightin' Irish :)

The international fanbase of the Irish is awesome.

Losing 100 pounds is cool too! But I figured it out! Pounds are money for you! You lost some bets on your running ability!

I'm just razzing you. Nice job on the loss .

Hi patty! Thanks for the invite to your team but I think you guys found a different team mate.

Have you started running at all? This is my second week on the treadmill. I am thinking I might need new runners my knees are a bit sore. So, far I can run for about 3 minutes. LOL

I started walking in March with a friend. At first it was mornings when we could manage it. Now it's every single day during the week and when we can on the weekends.

We stepped it up this summer a little bit with jogging. But my friend is not a big jogger and is happy to walk. So we jog and walk.

So I started to jog at a favorite park about 25 minutes away. I do my 5k there, try to jog the whole time, try to improve my time. I do that on Saturday mornings when I can. Now that the kiddos are in school, and I've been out of town a few weekends, I'll be trying to squeeze it in once or twice a week. Have my first 5k on Oct. 28.

Get new shoes! Makes a big difference. Try on several different kinds. They all fit so differently. New Balance is nice and won't completely break the bank.

On the treadmill, try walking first to warm up those muscles, especially for the knees. Up the speed while still walking, try the various programs that have hills while still walking. That preserves your knees while getting the heart rate up. Jog for 1-3 minutes if you can or want to, then go back to walking. Each week up the jogging, speed, or hills a little if you can. You should get out of breath or sweat if your'e trying hard enough. Last fall I spent months on the treadmill (didn't do all of the above) without getting a bit fitter or thinner because I was too busy staying in the recommended heart range, not pushing it, not sweating.

Good luck.

Yeah, the recommended heart rates are generic at best, and basically, if its a decal on a machine, then its not really worth paying attention to. You get an idea of how hard you are going better than that.

HI Patty! I might yet join your team. No one has posted on mine? I didn't know you could have more than 4 members.

I have New Balance and have really enjoyed them but they are a couple years old. I plan on getting New Balance again... just have to convince my DH I really need them.

Good luck on the 5K! I am hoping one day I can do a half marathon too. In the spring I might join the Running Room to prepare me for a 5K and get used to running outside.

I agree about pushing it above your taget heart rate. Everyday I try to go a little harder and a little longer. Today I did a 4 minute jog and then 2mins walk and alternated between 2/3 min jog with a 2/3 min walk. I also agree about the warm up and the knees. Today, I warmed up for a good 5 minutes before I started jogging and my knees hurt a little but another 5 minutes they felt okay.

It's nice you have a walking partener - helps with the motivation.
