Weight-Loss Laxative Tea

Has anyone had any experience with the herbal teas you can buy with laxatives in them?

Part of the hardest thing I find with nutrition is getting enough fibre. Not wanting to give too much information, I know that I don't go to the bathroom as much as I should.

I don't want to use these teas if they are just as bad as using normal laxatives, which I have had to use because of the above mentioned not being able to go to the bathroom.

I know using laxatives isn't the right way to go in weight loss, I have lost the last 10kgs through healthy eating and excercise but I do wonder where all the food goes, if it's not coming out the normal ways...and could this be contributing to the fact that I haven't lost (but not gained either!) any weight in the last 8 weeks or so?

Anyone have any advice? Would be greatly appreciated. :)

I've found having bran flakes for breakfast and plenty of drinks during the day - usually lemon and ginger tea - and I've had no problems in the bathroom :)

laxatives are the worst thing you can do for your long term health -

It's not that hard to get enough fiber iny our diet.. seriously.. it's not...

Search this forum for FIBER and you'll find lots of topics on that subject

and throw that tea out.

Hi!

Thanks so much for your reply.

Unfortunatley I can't eat bran flakes, have tried but I get really bloated and I get painful cramps :( I have had to do some eliminations in my diet and any kind of soft drink and bran flakes were the first to go :(

Those tea's are awful, stay away. If you REALLY want to go the lax route, which I'm with Mal, I'd suggest getting it from your diet, but if you need a little push google "SWISS KIRSS". My mom used to give this to us as kids, and it is natural and gentle. I suggest the loose kind: as opposed to the tabs.

How much fruit and veggies do you eat, and how much water do you drink? If we could see your diet, maybe we can help you add the fiber you need w/o aid of laxitives.

If you start taking laxatives, its very hard to stop. Your body gets used to it and stops doing what its supossed to do. Then you need more and more and more. Its really best to try to use food to get the job done.

I have only used them a couple of times, as I was having trouble going. I hadn't tried the teas, I wasn't sure if they were any better than normal laxatives or not - but by the sounds of things they are really just as bad! I will be steering clear, I promise!

To be completely honest with you, busy91, you have probably knocked the nail on the head. I don't eat enough vegetables and I only eat fruit once a day, usually a banana. I drink approx 2L of water every day.

Are any particular fruits higher in fibre than others? I am sure I heard that apple skin is high in fibre, but I could have that wrong.

I don't think bananas are the fruit for consitpated people!

Apple skin is great. But really any fruit other than banana will get you going. Veggies (raw) like carrots and such. Beans too.

Don't overdo it at first, move up gradually. Your stomach will hurt otherwise.

Charcoal tablets from your local health shop are quite good for getting rid of trapped wind without, erm, embarrassing yourself. That and plenty of fruit and water.

I find soft fruits like plums are good for helping me do my 'business'.

LOL thanks for the heads up about the charcoal tablets although In that sense, I am actually quite lucky, it tends to come out in burps rather than... well, you get the idea!! :)

I have started taking Ginger tablets, they are supposed to help aid digestion and help with the bloating and cramping, so we shall see how that goes. Peppermint Tea is another big winner, that helps alot too.

If you doesn't eat vegetables...and have so limited of fibre in your meals, it quite easy to expect that problems.

Fresh fruits: kiwi, pineapple, papaya, plums, mango, strawberries...every fruit, but banana isn't quite good to your problem.
