Tips

Hi Bukendaa,

Sounds as if you are looking to tone?

There are a number of abs exercises you can do at home to help. You don't have to purchase expensive gym equipment.

Pop along to the library, you may be able to find a step by step book on abs exercise there.

ps.
Muscle burns fat.

you're 14 and trying to get "ripped"? Your body isn't done developing yet... Just try to stay active as best you can. Thats the only thing, next to a healthy diet, that is important for a 14 year old to concentrate on in reguards to their body.

no not ripped lol just a bit more toned not so flaby i have alot of loose fat atm like on my glutes there is alot of sagy skin im not sure if that is loose skin or left over fat is there anyway to burn this seems that cardio is not working.

By building up to 300 to 400 minutes of distance running or cycling will get you to achive those results, Just a little cardio here and there won't make a difference.
Hill running (we call it fell running here in the uk) gives you powerful leg and glute muscles, as does cycling. Spinning/studio cycling classes done at least 2 to 3 times a week incorporated into your 300-400 minutes per week will help. Spinning is an intensive cycling class which was first created by an athlete for other athletes to improve their fitness levels, so it's pretty intensive, which is exactly what is needed. It's not one for softies, as anyone can tell you who does spinning!
Building up to and maintaining this amount of cardio will hurt like hell for the first few weeks, but if you push through the pain barrier you will end up loving it, as you reach new levels of fitness, strength and energy.
Joining your local running club and signing up for a half marathon will give you all the motivation you need. Then if you keep up with your abdominal excersies, you'll start seeing that six pack in no time!

I do about 30 mins of cardio a night thats about 400,500 cal i dont think i could do 300 400 min but i will try my best will i eventuly reach pass the pain after a a few trys.

will cardio make you lose muscle!?! No way man! Go for it, theres nothing wrong with doing cardio and weights the same day.

Hey Bukendaa,

I had a massive self image problem when I was young - this lead to me dieting and exercising like mad when I was about your age.
Unfortunately my body hadnt fully developed and all the exercise and dieting screwed up my growth - particularly my height, compared to the rest of my family and my friends Im the shortest - in fact my body looks pretty much the same as it did when I was 14.

In my opinion you should just relax and enjoy being young - eating healthy and picking up a sport should help keep you trim. Your body is already burning lots of calories helping you grow - you'll probably end up growing a foot in a year and all that excess fat will disappear!

Cheers.

Sorry, that last message was bit brief.

Working out won't stunt your growth - what I was trying to get at was that you should make sure your eating right, not over doing it and don't get obsessed with your body image.

When I was young I got obsessed and didn't have the right information (no internet those days), I also had 2 sisters who were obsessed about how they looked and weighed. I was running 20km's a day and eating absolutely nothing which resulted in my poor growth.

I should note that Im not a Doctor - you should see a doctor and they'll point you in the right amount of exercise for someone your age/weight.

Cheers.
