Sport Lack energy! help!

Sport Fitness
hello, i'm trying to figure out why i am lacking energy...
I eat pretty healthy and I even started taking the "animal pak" multivitamins hoping that would help...

I should be in pretty good shape but I seem tired, listless and sleepy during the day...no mater it seems how much sleep I get!

I am 25 yo...5'10 150 pounds...i workout 4-5 days a week for 2 hours per night at a boxing gym I compete out of.

The kind of fatigue I feel isn't out of breath just tired...

could it be contributed to water intake? I drink juice and rarely soda but could lack of water in my diet be the cause? i usually only drink water during training...

thanks for any info!

hmmmmmmmmm....i get tired often too.

have u ever gotten your blood checked for high cholestorol or any other abnormalities to rule out any medical issues??

i would start there and if the bloodwork comes out ok, then i would take a better look at your diet, or post up what your diet is like, so people can give you advice on if u need to tweak it or not.

good luck to you!

Whoa, your workout is 2 hours long? omg...

Drink alot of water (2 quarts + per day), others may have some diet plans where drinking other things could help, but just drink alot of water.

A calorie deficit can also contribute to lack of energy.

If nothing seems to help your loss of energy, see a doctor.

Hey!

Ok, i found your problem. 4-5 days a week @ 2hrs is way to much. A common thing called over-training.

It wont get you anywhere and will actually bring you down, i think your now at that phase.

A general workout should not exceed 1.5hrs (45mins is best) and should be no more than 4 days a week.

Give yourself a rest from doing any sort of weights and do only very light cardio for the next 7 days on every second day.

Get back in to it with 1 day off and 1 day on. Dont exceed 45mins and start at square one again.

You will notice results within weeks and you will feel much better.

I grant you a 1 week holiday :)

Cheers,

Steve.

PS: Drink water not only when you are at the gym, drink it when you can :)

woops, i didnt notice the 2 hour workout, that is kind of long.

i also notice that when i eat the way i'm supposed to i'm not that tired.

good catch peeps on the two hours.

;)

I agree workouts too long. Also take a look at your diet make sure you are getting enough complex carbs.

Drowsiness can be caused from a whole list of things, many which have already been discussed. Two hours at the gym seems very long. What does these workouts consist of and how often are you doing them?

Also, dehydration is definitely a factor that is contributing to your drowsiness. You need to be drinking water all day long. Avoid the juices as these just add processed calories. Instead eat fruit and drink water. I drink over a gallon each day, and on real active days, I STILL feel dehydrated.

Next, what does your diet consist of. Many people who feel tired during the day don't eat properly. Are you eating small, numerous meals each day? Of the meals you are eating, what are you consuming? If you are not eating enough meals each day or if you are consuming too much sugar, your insulin output can be out of control. If this is the case, there could be times during the day where you are hypoglycemic, which means your blood sugar levels are very low. This could surely lead to feelings of drowsiness.

There is more that could be at play here too, but lets cover these things first. Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for all the info!!!

well to answer the question about the workout...yes it may seem long but i am not lifting weights...training goes as followed
times are approx but pretty close...

*warm up (stretch, light shadow boxing) 30 min

at the end of warm up we switch to 3 min work (rounds) and 1 min rest

*jump rope (spirited) 30 min

*bag work (hitting heavy bag) 45 min

*misc training (i.e. up and down bag, pad work, speed bag etc but only one for duration for the day) 15 min

rounds end
*exercise (push-ups, situps, squats (not weighted) etc) 20 min

training last from 6-830 most nights.

You are doing functional training for a sport related activity. Do you box professionally or just for a hobby? Many of the comments you will recieve in here are from "weight lifters" who go to the gym in order to improve their bodies. You on the other hand go to the gym to improve your skills with boxing.

I used to train long like this functionally for my various sports and see no issue with that. I would be willing to bet that your drowsiness stems from lack of hydration and proper nutrition.

and i think you are right...i am going to up why water intake...

there are a few issues i may post about later about weight and getting to my fight weight...

I usually sweat off 3.5 to 4.5 pounds between start of training and end of training (no ac and i train to win)..that's why i think water is the missing ingredient
