Knees hurting - again

About 15 years ago, from doing step aerobics every single day, I hurt my knees and needed physical therapy to get them to stop hurting.

Now, it's happening again...the twinges of pain. I'm lo-tone, and i guess doing the exercise bike too many days in a row is wreaking havoc on me (I do yoga or pilates videos in the AM).

Besides walking, what other exercise could I do in the off days?

Thanks.

what kind of work were you doing for them in therapy? maybe it would make a difference for you again?

glucosamine sulfate work well if its a cartalage problem.

Biking and running puts a lot of stress on the knee. try a cross trainer, skipping and if you use the tread mill, go for slower uphill runs, so your not slapping your feet along the belt as you run.

It's a recumbant bike, I thought it'd be easy on the knees...how do you recommend I continue to use it...should I use less resistence? More time?

Thanks.

Use less resistance but you might not get the pump in your legs. If your goal is fat loss (i dont know if it is) its probably better anyway keeping yourself in that 60% MHR zone. Though thought about substituting the bike with some swimming for a while?

I wouldn't use a bike at all. you can use less resistance, but you'll be going faster and spend more time on the bike, or use more resistance and spend less time on the bike but cause more damage.

You shouldnt do anything that hurts.

I don't know what deer velvet is.

Nothing hruts me when I do it, it's more like a dayor so after. Sharp needles in and around my knees. At its worst, it woke me up at night.

I hate to get my face wet...and I already own the bike. Maybe I should go less resistence and more time, I have the time.

Goal is overall health; I already lost the 20 lbs my dr asked me to.

Thanks, guys!

You shoud see your GP before riding again. Just lowering the resistance my not be the answer, it may be the way your bones rub together regardles of resistance. in which case you could do even more damage.

Actually, last year as I was losing the weight, I saw a sports doctor who would NOT help me. I told him what my experiences were, and asked him if he though I could do lo-impact aerobics.

He said if I would take x-rays and then do a round of physical therapy he'd know where my muscles were at.

Maybe I should have.....instead I just did the videos in the AMs and the bike or walking most nights.

That was Aug 2004............
