Kettlebell Training

I just wanted to get an idea of how many of you on these forums train with kettlebells, and if you do, what exercises you feel to be the most beneficial and why. Also, if you own a kettlebell, or are thinking about buying one, which brand do you like? I'll post my opinions shortly

As for me, the excercises/techniques that have benefited me the most in my training include the snatch, double clean and press, turkish get ups, and the swing. I was lifting for about 2 years with just sub par results, it wasn't until I started training with kettlebells that the work i've put in has truly paid off. I train kettlebells almost daily and am down to about 6% bodyfat, but I am also stronger than I have ever been when lifting conventional weights. If you haven't tried trainign with kettlebells yet, then you should really give it a shot!

"snatch, double clean and press, turkish get ups, and the swing"

Agreed on all. I snatch, swing and TGU a couple of times a week. C&P varies, since I incorporate other shoulder work as well.

Good to see another kettlebell enthusiast here, I really can't rave enough about how great of a tool they are. Any preferences on brands? I love dragondoors personally, but a good friend of mine prefers muscledriver

My Review of Dragon Door Kettlebells and IKFF Kettlebells

I thought I'd give a review of my two favorite brand of kettlebells, and let everyone know why I like them, and why I would recommend them over most other brands if you are looking to invest in kettlebells. Ill start with the dragondoor.

Dragondoor Review:

I currently own 5 dragondoor kettlebells, 2x16kg, 2x24kg, and 1x28kg. The purchasing process was incredibly smooth, and it took about a week for me to receive each of the kettlebells.

Price/Value: It is well known in the kettlebell community that dragondoors are probably the pricest kettlebells around, but you really get what you pay for here. They are all one solid piece of cast iron steel, and they are definitely a life long investment. I am glad I spent the extra couple of bucks or so and went with the dragondoor, because the I can truly feel the difference in quality of these bells, especially when compared to muscle driver, or even troy kettlebells(not bashing troy or muscledriver, they are definitely fine if you are on a tight budget). Dragondoors just have a more solid feel to them, and they handle so much more smoothly. - 9/10

Feel: As stated above these bells handle incredibly smoothly, especially since they started making them with the new coating. I haven't had a callous tear in over a year since I switched to dragondoor kettlebells(of course a lot of this has to do with technique as well, but the new coating and feel of the bell has definitely helped). The dragondoor bells feel great, especially for snatching, cleaning, and pressing. If your technique is good, then you will love the feel of these bells. The dimensions of the bell couldn't be better, and the handle is the perfect thickness, which is great because too many kettlebells have too thick of handles which really makes certain techniques a real pain in the ass, especially if you have smaller hands like myself. But with dragondoors, I have absolutely no problems with the size of the handles or the dimensions of the bell itself.-10/10

Durability: Yes dragondoors may be considered pricey by some, but when you think about how they will last you a lifetime, it really is a great investment. And believe me these bells will indeed last you a life time. I've lost count of the number of times that I've dropped my bells, and there still isn't a single dent on anyone of them. I've even dropped my 24kg on the tiles in my apartment, which unfortunately shattered the tile, but the bell didn't sustain a single scratch. These things just feel indestructible, couldn't be happier with the quality of this product- 10/10

Overall: In general, investing in kettlebells, especially dragondoor, has been one of the greatest things I've ever done. I'm faster, stronger, and leaner than I have ever been, and I can get a solid workout in at any time without having to go to the gym. The bells are well worth the price, and I would recommend dragondoors to anybody looking to buy a kettlebell. Do yourself a favor and go out and buy a kettlebell, I promise you won't regret it!

I have to go teach a kettlebell class now actually, so I will post my IKFF kettlebell review shortly! Hope this helps!

Yeah, I don't know. I've got a hodge-podge, but have never tried DD. By all accounts, you don't get much better. If I ever decide to start over, I'd pay the DD premium. Nothing worse than laying out for a KB and having it tear your hands up or not feel right.

I have no idea on using these so excuse my ignorance.

Why pay the premium if cheaper ones weigh and look the same. the do the same job correct?

If its down to grip or how they feel, could you not just wear a light glove?

Are there any advantages over free weights?

Thanks

Mick.

Hey mick, i'd be happy to clarify. Really, this review is just my opinion and I'm sure there will be others with different opinions, but there are a few reasons why I feel dragon door, and IKFF(which i haven't posted my review of yet, are the best). Even though a kettlebell may weight the same, the ballistic nature of the exercises really makes it important that you get a bell that has the right dimensions and the right feel, other wise you could get really banged up, and your hands will especially suffer. You don't really want to wear gloves because they will only inhibit the development of proper technique, and they are not allowed in most kettlebell certifications. For my certification(RKC), you are required to pass a snatch test, completing 100 reps under 5:00 minutes with a 24kg kettlebell. Believe me when I say if you don't get a bell with the right feel and dimensions, than you will feel it and pay sorely when trying to perform high rep snatches, cleans, jerks, etc.

There are many great advantages with kettlebells over free weights, one being that it blends anaerobic and aerobic exercise together. Exercises such as swings and snatches have helped me improve my athleticism, especially my explosiveness, far more than any of my traditional barbell training has. Not to mention that training with kettlebells has gotten me down to a single digit bodyfat percentage, but I am also stronger than I have ever been. I know I propbably sound biased since I'm a kettlebell instructor, but it really took me a while to buy into the whole system of kettlebell training myself, and I can tell you that it was probably the best thing I've ever done. If you have any more questions please let me know, I'd be happy to help.

But as for paying the premium for a dragondoor kettlebell, they really arent even that much more expensive than most other kettlebells out there, yet to me at least, they are the best you will find anywhere. My second favorite being IKFF, which I will post a review of shortly. The dragondoor kettlebells are always the first ones to get grabbed by my clients at my kettlebell classes, so I'm certainly not the only one who prefers them.

There are differences in the size, width and diameter of the handle, and the bell itself. These affect how it swings, where it rests on your arm in the rack position, how it flips over and the finish affects your hands. Too rough and too smooth can both be trouble (but, yes, a glove can help here).

KBs are just a different tool. I still primarily do barbell weight training, but get great (and very different) workouts with KBs. They can be especially useful for stamina and flexibility.

Mick, you should really look into starting to train with kettlebell. Personally, it was the best investment I've ever made. I've trained with barbells and traditional lifts for years, along with a mixture of other methods, but nothing has yielded as many benefits as my kettlebell training has. If you have any questions or need help getting started, or even want a good recommendation of what kind to get just let me know, I'd be happy to help you out. If you want some tutorials then please check out my website at

Your posts are a looking a bit spammy don't you think Supmuhhumbruh? Have you cleared this affiliate stuff with the site owner? This place would be spoilt with guys/spam bots bumping there own posts and saying here's a link to buy xyz.

Not trying to spam at all, just giving my personal recommendations. Of course I'd liek to promote my site as well, but all of the information and tutorials on there are completely free so its a win, win

On other forums you would be banned for what you are doing. You have posted 3 or 4 affiliate links and replied to your own posts in this same thread. People aren't stupid you know.

Im not accusing anyone of being stupid. I don't make my living off of affiliates links, I'm a full time college student and make my money through personal training and group fitness, but if I'm going to recommend a good product to people, well of course I'm going to give my affiliate link, but don't accuse me of spamming, I'm offering advice, letting people know what has worked best for me.

If people cannot see one link then you are either spamming or taking them for fools. What is the need for 3 or 4 links each with your affiliate link in a topic that you have started yourself?

- Post Post #2 - you bump the post and reply to yourself

- Post #5 you reply to yourself and post Heres a link to buy dragondoor kettlebells:

- Post #11 well said def! Here are some links if you are interested in starting to train with kettlebells

- Post #12 please check out my website at

What is the difference between you and the guys who spam the site selling shoes? Even BB.com which has a bad rep, would not allow this kind of sh1t to stand.

Noones forcing you to read this thread, if you have a real problem with it then don't read it, noone is forcing you to click on the link either, im still providing information regardless of whether or not i post an affiliate link, that is valuable to anybody who wants to start kettlebell training, needs some tutorials, or wants to look into the warrior diet and how its benefited me.
