Weight-Loss Kellogg's Special K bar, is it a great healthy snack option?

Weight-Loss
read the ingredients list...

last time I looked at them they had HFCS as a key ingredient which in my world -is something to be avoided -I also don't think it's that high in fiber or anything that would be satisfying.. .

so the calories are fine but you really get nothing from them

I don't think they taste very good...:ack2: Kind of like chocolate-covered cardboard.

Lots of protein though. So that's something to be said.

For granola bars I prefer the kashi TLC bars. They have more fiber and are much more satisfying. The cherry dark chocolate ones are great.

I like it-only the strawberry. 90 calories is a low snack for me so I pair it with an apple. Usually I will eat the apple and skip the cereal bars. It does not have a lot of sugar and is a good alternative if you have a sweet tooth all the time like I do. I do not know much about the other things like fiber.

The one that is 90 cal only has 1g protein and not much else. I don't think there's any harm in eating one but I wouldn't unless I was looking for an alternative to a candy bar or something. I don't eat bars often but there are definitely better tasting snack bars out there, even though the Luna stuff is "made for women" I like those. The Kashi stuff is good too. I'd rather eat double calories with the Kashi and Luna stuff than gut the processed junk they put in Special K.

Over here Special K is starting to get a backlash in the media since someone noticed that the UK recipe has about the same amount of sugar as a tub of ice cream and not a lot else in it's favour.

I really like Larabars, which are essentially dates and nuts. They have more calories (210-220), but they stick with you a long time. Lots of minerals, fair amount of fiber, lots of healthy fats, and some protein.

Oh, you guys must be talking about a different kind of bar than I've eaten. I've eaten their protein (meal replacement) bars, which have 10 grams of protein per serving and about 4 grams of fat.

This is the kind I've had. And it ain't that great:

Very carob-y and cardboard-y. I don't know if it has actual carob in it or not, but the chocolate doesn't taste like real chocolate, in any case.

I did a south beach meal replacement bar yesterday for breakfast because I didn't have time to do a real breakfast due to getting up late and having to rush rush the kids to an appointment.

I would stick with the fruit, if I were you, but if you find yourself on the go and don't have time or access to fresh fruit, you could do worse than the SB bar or a similar product. It may have twice the calories and then a few, but it has pretty good nutrition in it and it had lots of staying power as well. (edit to add) It was also really tasty. The chocolate was very good.

God Bless,
mik
