Hi everyone. I am new to this thread, I haven't started yet, but I have an appt tomorrow. My only concern is that I will lose and put it all on. I have about 35 - 40kg to lose. The choice of veggies and stuff is also very limited. I have some friends who have lost nicely and seem to maintain. I know that I am an emotional or comfort eater. Have you found that this changes on the programme? Also can anyone give me longterm feedback re maintaining. I have insulin resistance so I think that this is the only thing that will prob work. Please anyone out there to inspire me?

Hi Sue

I have been on the program for about 4 months and have lost nearly 32kg's. I would highly recommend doing the program as it changes more than your body shape it changes your thinking. I think whilst being on the program and the restrictiveness of it helps you to assess why you feel the way you do and why you think you need to use food to comfort yourself.

I have come to realise this and I feel like I have changed my life thinking forever. This program will not work for you if your looking for a quick fix/answer. It is a lifestyle change and a drastic one at that, by doing the program you will re-learn how to cook and prepare healthy, interesting meals and I have learnt so much. The best thing I can recommend is to assess where you are right now and how desperate you are to loose the weight.

I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin resistance so NOTHING worked for me, this was a last ditch attempt and it has been very fruitful. ALL your sugar cravings will disapear like magic and you wont feel hungry AT ALL!!! Which is remarkable cause that was one of my issues with eating.

I say if your serious give it a go, but you need to be 100% commited and put your social (food) life on hold for a while.

Take care and hope that helps. I am sure Cate will post about maintaining the weight as I dont have experience in that yet :)

Best of luck xxnicole

Hi,
I am in the same boat. I have only just looked at this diet and i have so many questions. I would love to see a sample diet plan to see the kind of food and amounts that you can eat.
Also i am in the uk, so it will be done over the Internet.

Also i am not sure about the price. Do you pay the original amount at the begging, then do you pay for any thing after that?? I am not sure how this works!!!

It seems like people have had great results on this diet and i would love to see these results for myself!!

I hope some one can help with these questions!!

Thanks
Jim

sue5blue- Hi & welcome to the forum!2 years ago I did Cohen's & lost 36kgs. I am maintaining to within 3kgs of my goal weight as they recommend. You learn so much about food doing Cohen's but the main thing is you learn that you must change the way you think about yourself & food. That is the biggest battle. Food should be about nutrition and sustaining your body to ensure good health. Cohen's in itself will not change the way you think. That you must work on. There are numerous self-help books, some aimed at helping with weight-loss. I can recommend The Beck Diet Solution by Dr Judith Beck. I usually get my books through the library but this one I couldn't so bought it from an eBay seller.
Affirmations are great. I find them particularly useful when I am getting even a little bit negative & need a boost. I also saw a counsellor briefly when I finished the program as I had issues with being slim. I had hidden behind my fat. Use anything you can-books, counselling, forums, affirmations to help build your self-esteem. Once you feel positive about yourself you will change the way you look at food & yourself.
The biggest battle is in our mind. It can be overcome though. At 56 I have never felt better mentally. I don't waste time & energy saying what if. Instead I am enjoying my life & loving it. I am more open & giving & am making new friends all the time. Instead of thinking that people would not like me if I opened up (old Cate) I now think why wouldn't they like me (new Cate.) I have not changed but my attitude towards myself has. Life is wonderful!
Look at this as a learning experience. There will be moments when you slip, as we all do, but mistakes help us learn. It's all good.
There is a lot of support to be found in this forum. We will all try to help you as much as we can. Cohen's works & you can do this. You deserve to be slim & healthy. Catch up again soon, cheers, Cate.
BIGjim26- Hi & welcome to the forum. I will leave your questions to some of my forum friends who are more up to date with current prices & especially what happens in the UK. I can tell you that Cohen's works & I lost 36kgs in 28 weeks by following the program 100%. Apparently men lose weight on Cohen's at an even more rapid weight than women. I'm sure your questions will be answered today & will pop back later, cheers, Cate

Thanks Cate!
What i have read so far sounds amazing and i am looking forward to taking this forward. I have taken the first step today and have registered with them on the website and i should receive the payment link in the next day if i am excepted. I think i will need to call them first to answer some questions before i start, but i think i can see a glimmer of light flickering down the end of a very long tunnel!!

hello Newbies!

Welcome to Cohen's. I am in my seventh week now and so far have lost about 11 kilos. Wow!
Sue, the reason we eat too much is always about pushing emotions down. Somehow we've all learned to fear ourselves and what we feel. The truth is, feeling your emotions is fine. Try it. I have become much more accustomed to self inquiry when I feel a longing for foood. Just the other day I was dreaming of a coffee and bagel (mmmm). And then I woke up to my thoughts and asked myself 'why do you want that? what are you feeling right now?" sure enough, underneath the desire for this heavy and sugary food, was a feeling that I might never succeed at achieving what i want in life. ahhhh, i thought, silly thinking once again, trying to pull you off your path! anyway, just realizing that i had a fear i might never succeed was enough to dissipate my craving for carbs.
so try that... whenever you find yourself hankering for a donut or dreaming of a burger, see if you can find out what's really going on inside. as soon as you discover what you're feeling, the emotion will magically pass. that's all it takes! why didn't someone teach me this 10 years ago!!!!

nicole is right. your cravings and desire for more food will essentially disappear within weeks of commencing the program. the biggest issue i have is tiredness. but you should know, i have also given up caffeine so that's probably why.

anyway, join join away and get going. the first two weeks are definitely the hardest, as there are physical ramifications of withdrawing all that crap from your diet - mostly just tiredness.

i look forward to getting to know you and hope i can be a support to you on your journey. you can do this!!!

28+1 xx

Hi Sue and Big Jim

I think it all comes down in the end to how badly you want it. A diet - any diet - will do so much for you, but if you are determined to have a turning point and change your life and your health for the better, you can do it!

Whatever system you adopt, you need to be doing something that you believe in. I like Cohen's because I understand how it works, I find plenty of independent research to back up the general ideas, it's easy for me to do, being just ordinary food I would have no trouble finding anyway. One thing is for sure, as Cate says, it really does change the way you think about food, and I can also say once getting over the first few weeks, I FEEL BETTER THAN EVER on the diet. I have lost the weight quicker and with less stress than any other way I've tried to do it over the years (there have been plenty!!!).

It also never leaves your mind. Whatever happens in life, you always know what to do to get back on track and stay within reach of your goals.

In the end, if you want it badly enough, read and understand all about it and just go for it. There are a lot of people on here who've done really well, and on other forums, and it really is best to just go with the plan and do EXACTLY what they say.

Thank you so much everyone for all your positive feedback.

Cate - thank you so much too. I was reading your diary, started at the beg and only managed to get to page 27 before I had to go to bed, but will continue today. It was very inspirational.

As I sit here now there is a part of me that is saying no don't do it, because you may fail - again! I know that I will have to address this negativity and will overcome it. This program is perfect for me as I have syndrome X and if I don't deal with it now, I will be on my way to diabetes etc.

I have to do it and with the support that I will get here (which is evident already) I will do it. I have to confront the demons, explore why it is easier to hide behind the fat and get beyond it.

Off to my first appointment now.

Be back later, Sue

Hey Sue,

Good luck at your appointment. Lets us know how you got on!!
