Kanye West - Graduation

does anyone have this album? it is amazing and deserves a grammy. now before you go on about "oh rap is only about money, sex, and drugs" read some lines from his new album:

Good Life
"Let's go on a living spree, hey they say the best things in life are free"
"Whether you're broke or rich you gotta get this, havin money's not everything, not havin it is"

Flashing Lights - this song talks about how women in today's world are too much into materialism and forgot where real happiness lies

Big Brother - this song is an ode to his idol Jay-Z

i am TELLING YOU this album is amazing.

Kanye's best song in his career is on the new album and it's called I Wonder - this is one of the deepest songs he has EVER made. THIS IS THE SONG TO LISTEN TO if you want to be convinced as to why this album is amazing

go on youtube and type in "kanye west i wonder"

that's cool that you like it so much. i'm not really feelin' it but i do like to workout to "stronger" (cheesy, i know) and i like homecoming.

the beats are better than the songs, but just my opinion.

FYI he was a producer before he was a rapper, so i'm not surprised that you said that. he produced songs for alicia keys and many other rnb artists.
oh yeah i like to workout to stronger too lol.

the reason for making this thread is
1. to tell you guys that this is one of the best hip hop albums ever

2. rap isn't always about money, girls, drugs, and sex. i've been hearing a lot of crap about "oh rap is stupid it's so degrading and all they talk about is killing". i know many people that hear the first 5 seconds of a rap song and automatically think it's bad.

just trying to "educate?" you guys on rap n hip hop. it's my favorite genre of music and i just want people to know that most hip hop songs on the radio are made to make money. REAL hip hop is what you DON'T hear on the radio. just take a listen to Tupac's song Changes - easily the best rap song ever

sure is.......but i don't mind trying to since it's worth defending.

oh yeah i've been a hip hop fan for a long time. i just started listening to Maroon 5 and i like what i hear. any suggestions on some music artists i should listen to? any genre is ok.

yeah, i knew that about kanye and i've always felt his beats.

personally, i think the hottest hip-hop artist out there right now is dizzee rascal. he's the full package - hot flows and beats, style and most of all...it's actually fresh and unique.

he's pretty much the sh$t.

Hmm...kind of like the Luis Vuitton Don. Kind of sad since most guys are just as into clothes and jewelry as the women.

Listen to Pink Floyd. I still love E.1999 by Bone Thugs.

What I said from another forum:

"His new cd is nothing special. He talks about himself and addresses those that are hatin WAY too much. I find his rhymes to be pretty simple...All these elements are in such a magnitude that I feel I'm listening to one of the commericialized, watered down albums, more suited for clubs than anything else. Still, I don't think he's "changed" or "sold out"...I just think he's been doing what he's always been doing (talking about his life and himself), but since his life has changed since Dropout, what he has to say is pretty dumb."

Overall I think this was his weakest album yet. I agree that the beats were way better than the lyrics.

If you want some real hip hop:

Living Legends, Cyne

I've listened to a lot of them-- Cyne and Living Legends are by far the sickest

Oh and maybe Deltron/Del The Funky Homosapien

.

I'd back that up, Dizzee Rascal has got a bit mainstream in the last couple of years but he's a great remedy for all the generic US rap made in the last decade

How do you know about him? Is he breaking the US then?

Perfect post ;)

Kanye is a weak rapper, his lyrics are pointless and mild.

Oh, and if he mentions that accident one more time I'm gonna scream

i think dizzee is still tight and still representin' in hip-hop regardless of whether he has become mainstream. in fact, i think maths and english is his best album in terms of overall quality and those beats are hot. and actually i do love all his albums, freestyles (that i can find) and he's still going really strong in my book.

but no, he's not mainstream in the US...yet. i hope that he can make it over here because i think he'd force other artists to step up their game. dizzee is just straight up dope and he deserves a bigger audience.

that song WAS on the radio...all the time! anyway, changes is my least favorite pac song EVER. haha...but that's cool. i think my favorite songs from him are tied between "made n$iggaz," "so many tears" and "ambition az a ridah.'

(btw, my college had a fun, 2 credit elective class about tupac - but that's the bay area for you...)

i'm listening to living legends now - night prowler. it's cool so far. not really my style but i can't hate. anyway, i'll keep bumpin' it for now...

Personally I like a lot of their stuff from their albums "Classic" and "Legendary Music" Did you say you were from The Bay? Your account says NYC...anyway, LL is just a bunch of already well-established artists like Murs and Aesop, who occasionally get together and jam under the name Living Legends. I think most of them are from California

But if you can find anything from Cyne, they're gold.

yeah man, i'm from the bay but living in nyc for the past few years. (but always representin' cali and the bay). but, i gotta admit (and you'll probably want to clown), i grew up listening to a totally different style than the artists you mentioned. the local hip-hop i grew up with is a lot different from this stuff. i still can't even handle a lot of the underground or lyrically amazing new york cats. it's not that they aren't good, it's just that i find the style to be boring - just not my thing. you might already know but in frisco (at least where i'm from), it's all about the slump: bass heavy, gangsta rap with more electronic sounding beats (meaning, less of an instrumental vibe). but hey, that's my sh$t so...

anyway, i'm older now and trying to finally get into other genre's within hip hop so i'll definitely check out cyne and the living legends albums you mentioned. good lookin' out.

Hahahah well I'm sure it will or has been growin on you for a while.

Are you bringing the Hyphy movement to NYC? Hahahahah
