Kaizen's 16 Week Fitness Journal

So, I've spent the last 9 months or so starting my own company (because I can't get a job thanks to the economy). This has basically involved me sitting on my butt non-stop and moving very little.

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Thailand (or maybe Argentina if the political situation turns nasty again in Bangkok), and I want to get back in shape before that.

It's my goal to be able to run from my apartment to this really big staircase that goes up a hill in Seattle (and up said staircase) and back to my apartment without stopping. Total distance: about 3 miles (plus, monster staircase)

I'm pretty pathetic right now. I started running today and let me say, I've really let myself go. I only made it about one mile today. That's okay though. I'm just getting started and I don't want to over do things right now.

Baby steps, ya know...

Congrats to you for getting started! Hope that this has been going well for you. Do you have a history of running? What are your current stats? Coming from a guy who never liked running until about 2 years ago, starting a walk/run routine really helped in building up my ability to run long distance. The key is to stay strict on your intended intervals (like 4 minute run, 2 minute walk to start). You want to be hitting a walk interval before you feel like you need it...this will reserve more energy for you to stretch out your run for longer. And remember in the beginning, you don't have to run it fast! Just keep moving, slow down if you feel you need to, but keep moving! I eventually got it down to where my walk runs range between 6/1 to 10/1 as well as no walk interval at all for 3 to 5 mile runs. Stay dedicated and push yourself a little harder each time and you'll be just fine. Best of luck to you!

Well the first 6 weeks fo your journal pretty much suck, lets see if you can pull it out the page in the last 10!
