hi everyone ive been trying for the past month to see if i could do anything about my eating habits or something to help me lose weight because whatever im doing currently is not working. tips on basic stuff would help like my job keeps me fairly active and ive been going at lease a .25 mile on my elliptical which is the only workout thing in my home. i cant afford to go to a gym or buy special foods, i know keeping up with my calories is good which im getting used to with the app on my phone. Most of my calories are mostly bad i assume anyway,my question is should i be working out more or working out a certain way or what i don't know how to go about this. Any help is appreciated!!

Polar Bear I suggest little steps. Just lean into a program and find what works for you. For example -- i love butter...oh yum :) bread and butter is my favorite. So I have not bought butter in the past 2 weeks. I add fake salt (I have high blood pressure) or other flavorings instead. I think losing weight and getting healthy might be like becoming financially healthy. I need to leave at home or close my credit card accounts. Right now the best medicine is not having it (butter/Visa). I also feel like I'm well versed in Weight Watchers but the problem with me is that I cannot have just a little bit of what I really like I eat the WHOLE thing (ice cream is also a downfall of mine). So I'm leaning more towards the core/simply filling that Weight Watchers has. I can have some food that is not simply filing but the majority of my eating should be simply filling. I have to relearn (or learn?) that Cash is King and Good Health (losing weight) is priceless.

Hi Polar Bear

Weight loss and getting healthy needn't be costly, although I know that it seems that way sometimes! I can't afford gym membership (nor do I have the time!) so I know exactly where you are coming from.Having an elliptical in your home is great, it means that you can work out much more regularly than you would at a gym or in smaller, more frequent bursts as opposed to an all out session at the gym.

I don't think there is any right or wrong way to exercise (although I'm no expert and I'm sure some people would disagree with me on that front) it's more about what works for you. If you are able then you could always vary the types of exercise you do - maybe go for a walk twice a week, go running around your local area if that's your thing, buy a cheap fitness DVD and use that every so often. Some satellite and cable packages come with fitness channels. There are also a bunch of apps which you can get for free that give you tips or give you daily workouts. Well worth looking at the free and cheap options out there :)

Like Beth150 said, you need to look at your habits and your lifestyle and commit to making the changes. It's hard at first and it needs to be a conscious decision but the results are worth it and eventually it will all become second nature to you.

Good luck.
