Just joined and I have a trivial question.

Hi

I have just joined and have a question which isn't really a problem for me but just wondering if this comes up very often if at all. I am a man 67 years old and up until I was 35 I weighed a constant 12st 10lbs. As I approached my 40s my weight started to rise until two years ago I weighed 15st 7lbs so I decided to do something about it as I was obese in the BMI scale. Over 12 months I got down to 12st 7lbs through diet and walking. A few months ago I put on 6lb while on holiday and through the same regime got my weight back down to 12st 7lbs which gives me a BMI of 24.9 but I keep bouncing back up to 12st 10lbs and to be honest I 'feel' right at that weight if that's possible. I know it's only 3lbs extra but it gives me a BMI of 25.5
Am I putting too much emphasis on the BMI and should I remain at 12st 10lbs which is what I was throughout my adult life until my late 30s?

As I said it's not really a problem as either way my days of being vastly overweight are behind me but I am curious. I apologise that this may be seen as trivial to others problems with weight.

Thanks for any help

Regards

Ken

BMI does not differentiate by age, however if you look at bodyfat % it is normal as we age to carry a little more fat and still be in the healthy range, this is the chart form men

BMI is just a weight to height ration and does not take into account your lean body mass and does not work for some people who sit outside the normal, especially athletes.

Thank you for the graphic which makes sense, it would make me in the ideal range so I'm happy with that.

Thanks again

Ken
