Just a question about basal calories

I am a 24 year old 155 lb female at 5'9ish... I realize this is a healthy weight, but I would ideally like to be 145 lbs which is still in the healthy range.

Anyway, I joined Fitday.com and have been tracking my calories. This website is telling me that just by existing every day I am burning about 2211 calories. Is that accurate? For some reason I find that hard to believe. I even filled out that I basically do desk work all day. Any opinions on this?

why do you think it's hard to believe? your body burns calories by breathing.. food digestion requires calories to help with that...

there really is no one size fits all number -your body might actually need 2543 or it might need 1989 - the 2211 is a guesstimate...

If you're looking to lose weight you want to drop back your calories... but you also want to stay at a high a range as possible so you've got that wiggle room you might need down the road.

if you add in exercise -those calories will go up

That's actually pretty cool to know. I know the body definitely burns calories during the day, but that's awesome it burns that many! That's like running 20 miles! Thanks for the confirmation.
