Jump rope advice requested

Hi all

I am looking at getting a rope, and wonder from people with experience with those, what the best kind to get is?

Right now I have a nylon rope w/plastic handles and i find it's just too light, and just whipping it around over my head seems like it takes more effort than it should. I'm thinking the actual rope spinning part is supposed to feel natural and not take much effort while the actual cardio comes from the jumping.

I should also mention, I have looked around and some of the prices on what amounts to a ROPE are kinda ridiculous. I really don't want to spend a lot of money on a string with handles. =)

Any advice is appreciated!

skipping ropes for little girls are cheap, the rope is light and slow moving.

You want a heavy one, I use a thick leather with ball bearing sockets and oversized handles. I find I get cramp in my hands with the smaller handles.

if your buying online google the boxing skipping ropes.

Yeah I have one with 1 or 2 lb weight in each handle. Its a pretty thick handle, and has a leather I would say cable/rope... I used to do them like mad.. but not so much anymore. If you ever hit yourself on the bareleg with it.. its going to leave a nice welt on ya.

Does a weighted handle actually affect the speed at which the rope itself moves? I would think that's more for wrist/arm strength as you jump. The problem with my cheapie $1 rope (it came in a package with some cheapie hand grips and a cheapie "power bar") is that its sooo light it's hard to keep it going.

Livefromny, did you mean that for me? I'll always take a good free rope! :p

Wow! That's very kind of you, and very appreciated! :)

Yes, I certainly do not want to take it away from her if she's using it, but if not, please let me know and I will PM my address to you. :)
