Weight-Loss Juice Question

Weight-Loss

I hadn't eaten and my blood sugar was feeling a little wonky earlier so I chose what I thought was something healthy... apple juice.

I got it back to the car and really looked at the label:

8oz of 100% juice from Ocean Spray:
Calories 117
Fat 0
Sodium 7
Total Carbohydrates 29
Dietary Fiber 0
Protein 0

Compare that to 8oz of Coke:
Calories 97
Fat 0
Sodium 33
Carbohydrates 27
Dietary Fiber 0
Protein 0

I thought I was making a better choice - juice comes from fruit, fruit is good so juice must be good too right? So here's my question: Is there any nutritional value to juice or is it just basically sugar? And is it really a better choice than a soda?

the cranberry juice cocktail is more sugar than juice...

it's got vitamin c but that's about it i believe

Just about all fruit juice is not very good. If you want healthy juice, you gotta squeeze it yourself.

I always buy not-from-concentrate, does that make a difference at all? I guess probably not - the pasturization kills most of the good nutirents, etc.

Wow, this is kind of shocking to me.

Though I guess it's still better than sodas in that simple fact that while it may still be almost all sugar, it's still mostly natural and not "High Fructose Corn Syrup and/or Sucrose, Water, Caramel Color, Phosphoric Acid, Natural Flavors, Caffeine"

I drink a glass of orange juice once a day for breakfast. Its water for the rest of the day after that. I'll usually have a powerade at one of my hockey games, 5 days out of the week. Probably gonna cut that out to, ive been trying to cut out anything with HFC.

Juices

:) I gave up my daily pear juice for the same reason, along with milk, and ice tea. Hower I still drink one glass of Welch's 100% grape juice: total fat 0 g, sodiium 0 mg, protein 0 g, total carb 41g (14%) at night with one banana. Is this OK while trying to lose weight and controling blood sugar level?
Thanks,
Paul

D-Mannose Powder - D-Mannose Powder is a simple sugar that occurs naturally in some plants, including cranberries
As a supplement, it can be purchased in powder form, which dissolves easily in water or juice and has a pleasant taste. It is so safe that it can be used by pregnant women and children, and it is even considered safe for diabetics, as it doesn’t interfere with blood sugar regulation. does not kill any bacteria – friendly or unfriendly. It serves as a kind of magnet in the urinary tract

Pasteurization does not destroy nutrients in juice. Not-from-concentrate is the way to go as you avoid additives most of the time (it's a cue but still check the label). If you're going to drink juice then go for stuff like orange juice with pulp so at least you get some fiber as well as vitamin c and folate.

If you enjoy juice as a more convenient way to get in some calories, get a juicer and break out the carrots and celery, it's pretty tasty.

Hi Penguin,
For me personally I just think of the ingredients. Yes juice is higher in sugar and carbs than coke, but at least there is only one or two ingredients. If you compair that to the ingredients in coke... yuk.
I say, if you are going to go for something sweet to drink, at least make it a healthy choice..lol Have a great weekend
