Sport Juice Diet

Sport Fitness
Has anyone ever tried a juice diet? Not only does it help you shift weight but its also great for your digestive system as it more or less gives it a complete rest and a change to recuperate.

I currently make two juices every day, although I am still eating other foods. I am considering for at least a week consuming nothing but juice (freshly made of course). Has anyone got any recommendations?

My current concoctions are as follow, and are full of vitamin A, C, K and anti-oxidants:

Morning Vegetable Juice:

  • Tomato x 2
  • Carrot x 2
  • Celery x 3
  • Cucumber x 1/4
  • Bell Pepper x 1

Afternoon Fruit Juice:

  • Orange x 1
  • Pear x 1
  • Banana x 1 (blended and mixed in with juice)
  • Strawberry x 1/2 punnet
  • Blueberries x 1/2 Punnet

I occasionally vary this and add mango, pineapple, or whatever happens to be in the kitchen.

Safe to say, I'm definitely getting my 5-a-day! :)

Let me know of any recipes you might have, or if you have ever tried doing the fruit/veg juice diet.

Thanks :)

do some research. You be very suprised to see how much sugar there is in fruit.

If you did this then pretty much all your energy would be from sugar.
You need protein and fat too.

it isnt refined sugar most likely (dont know the rules at your country) but here the juice is 100% sugar free, if they add sugar to it here they must call it "nectar" so i guess the sugar in juice would be from the foto synthesis process? and is that sugar bad??

When I say sugar I mean fast burning carbs. And I'm not talking about fruit juice from a store, I mean real whole fruit.

There is sugar in fruit. Why do you think its so sweet?

The carbs in fruit have a very very High GI number and burn very quickly. Eatting fruit as the main source of energy is very ineffective.

Hi There

I agree with some points made - this diet doesn't provide you with all the nutrients you need, but then again, I wasn't suggesting that it was something that people might want to undergo whilst working out.

I don't agree 100% that it's unhealthy - juice diets are cleansing, detoxifying and beneficial for the digestive function. I wouldnt consider doing something like this for more than a week, and maybe even that is too long, which is why I was wondering if anyone else had any experience of this.

As for fruit, yes, it is full of sugar, mostly glucose and fructose, and no, you shouldn't rely purely on these as an energy source when working out.

Indeed. Getting your carb sources from fructose leads to more frequent crashes and hunger. This is why a big focus is but on complex and fibrous carbs and combine any carb you have with a protein.

If you are eating a proper diet with fiber and whole foods then you don't need "detoxing". The only time you might want to give a extra umph to your system is maybe after a long bulking stage and even then there are more muscle saving ways than this to go about it. Its a diet fad to rid of muscle and water, nothing more.

Your poos will be so bad. Just eat a ballanced diet and everyone will be sweet. Look at that I solved the obesity epidemic

This makes almost as much sense as the "healer" who told my father in law about the baked potato/apple diet for weight loss. Eat nothing but apples and baked potatoes because they are energy foods. Sadly he believes (thank God he doesnt need to lose weight) but energy only comes from the sugar and starches in the foods.

I think I missed something-are we referring to fruit juice out of teh can or bottle or are we referring to actually juicing fruits and immediately drinking them. There is a huge difference between the two as one will actually have the benefits and the former being cooked and pretty worthless. I <3 my juicer.

If anyone is interested, check out Jack Lalane, aka "the Juice Man".

I would definately do the fruits in the morning and vegetables in the evening.

Keep in mind that some fruits are very high in sugar- ex: cherries
And some are not- ex: avacado, papaya

I like to typically stick to oranges, berries, and avacados with fruits.

I believe the going thought on fructose to be stored as fat=60+grams of fructose a day.

However, typically juiced fruits/vegetables are lacking in their fiber...so that's something to consider.
