Journey, Not a Destination

So I've been around these parts for a number of years now. I don't believe I ever started a journal. I suppose you could consider this my journal from a while back as I would very infrequently update it as if it were with photos and articles and such.

For those who know me, I suppose you'll be seeing a bit more of me. I started checking in this forum more frequently (relative to what I used to do yeas ago) and noticed an incessant amount of spam. I moderate Sean's (admin) other forum and told him I'd have no problem helping out with deleting spam around here - he agreed.

For those who don't know me... I'm a fitness enthusiast and professional. I'm a trainer who owns my own business - I own and operate a facility near Philadelphia with my partner. We work with a wide array of people... everyone from gen pop with your typical goals to some pretty talented athletes. My partner does a lot of the training for the baseball kids we have and I work with a number of wrestling, track and swim teams in the local area. I also do quite a bit of online training/consulting too, which has been growing by leaps and bounds these past 6 months.

I'm 28 years old, married, and expecting my first child this upcoming June which I am beyond excited about.

I like to climb mountains, play sports, get into trouble and be free.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. If not, I'll probably haphazardly update this journal with some incredibly unepic training logs, lol. I'm currently working on maintaining strength while increasing my conditioning specifically for mountaineering. I should do more conditioning but I can't give up weights more than I have already since they're my true love.

I'm currently training 6 days per week. Two upper body strength days, one lower body strength day, two cardiac output training days, and one HICT (High Intensity Continuous Training) day.

Yesterday was an easy 45 minute session of cardiac output training - some work done on the treadmill, some work done on the elliptical.

Hey Steve, good to see you over here on a more full time basis, I might pop over a little more frequently to check out your journal.

Shame to see you're crossing over to the dark side more though (cardio, boo!!!)

Thanks man.

Gotta do what I gotta do. Being really strong and/or muscular simply isn't high priority in my life anymore. Married, kid on the way, hobbies require better conditioning, etc.

My training needs to support my happiness... it used to be the other way around but it's simply not anymore. Though I still do love training and I'll always focus on strength training. I have to expand my focus a bit, though.

Unfortunately my knee seems to be buggered up at the moment. I was doing hack squats and at full flexion I'd feel this intense pain in my left knee. Now, upon palpation of the lateral side of the patella I'm feeling a popping or snapping anytime I quickly flex without load. There's no pain though.

I'm thinking it's something with patella tracking but who knows. See how it feels in a few and then decide to get it checked or not.

Seems to be on the mend. This is my off week and I've been focusing on tissue work quite a bit, which seems to help. Lot's of SMR of the ITB, adductors, hip flexors, and calves.

Thanks for asking.

Just got done an interview with Matt Perryman. It's really good... think it'll get some people thinking a bit differently about a few topics. I think I'll post it in 2-3 parts as I know people get ADD when reading on the net.

Stay tuned.

Phew, my workouts have consisted of snow removal over the last few days. We got nailed with 2 feet on Saturday and another 2+ feet on Wednesday. It wasn't all work and no play though...
