Jolly Rancher diet?

hey I'm 18 and I'm just about done with my senior year in high school, ive decided that I want to loose all the weight that i have put on from football and Lax. Im 5'11 and 194 lbs, i want to get down to 170. Anyway, ive been eating five times a day with small portions (relatively speaking). Anyway lemme get to the point. A friend of mine told me that he lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks for wrestling by eating a jolly rancher every 15 minutes the entire day. supposedly this sped up his metabolism. Im really skeptical can this work?

BTW I basically eat a bowl of shredded wheat twice a day (since its mostly fiber) and a turkey swiss sandwich (on a roll). I try to put in a meal with protien and carbs post work out (most of the time a can of tuna and two slices of bread) with a glass of 2%milk. thats all i eat. i do 1 and a half hrs of strict lifting and 20 min of jogging 5 days a week. i have pretty good self control.

sorry for the long post, oh and if someone can give me tips or criticism on my current diet, that would be great.

The Jolly Rancher thing- I highly doubt that did anything. You are what 17-18 and play sports? I highly doubt you need to speed up your metabolism. And 20 lbs in 2 weeks is really only possible with a crash diet of some sort for someone your size.

Are you tracking calories in any way? Do you know your BMR?
This is the only real way to figure out if you are eating enough to lose effectively.

Read the stickies in the nutrition forum and Google Harris Benedict equation.
That should get you the knowledge to do what you want to do.

I remember hearing about the Jolly Rancher diet years ago, but it was a joke. You were supposed to bite a Jolly Rancher and your jaw would stick shut so you can't eat anything. It was not to be taken seriously.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like you are missing some vital nutrients in your diet. Fruits and vegetables would really help - they are filling and low in calories (most of them) but contain lots of good stuff that you need.

Say you wake up at 7am and go to sleep at 11pm, you'll be awake for 18 hours and eat 4 jolly ranchers per hour. That's 72 jolly ranchers @ 24 calries, giving you just over 1700 calories for the day.

That should work.

Except, jolly ranchers are entirely carbohydrates. Did you know you can survive without carbs, but you'll die if you don't get protein or essential fats?

hey, all i know is that all my wrestling friends can loose like 20 lbs in a month, im open to suggestions from anyone who can accomplish that.

Im just sticking to eating a little less, making healthier choices, and my 2 hours of lifting and that seems to be working. Itll be 2 weeks tomorrow and ive lost 3lbs, I can already see a difference around my stomach, so im pretty happy.

In order to cut weight wrestlers will usually cut a bit of fat then drastically dehydrate themselves to temporarily make weight for a weigh in. Within hours they regain most of what they dropped because all they dropped was water. Its not a 'real' weight loss, so I wouldn't copy what they do.

Not to mention the the Jolly Rancher thing sounds ridiculous.

I wrestled in high school and 20 lbs in 2 weeks can be done. Like someone said it is a lot of water weight. You would need to run a lot more then you have been running to accomplish this though. thats why you see a lot of wrestlers running in layers of clothes with plastic bags underneath. this is to get rid of a lot of water (sweat) not saying this is healthy by any means but thats how it is usually done.
