jogging

Hey guys and girls,

I have been working out for the past 4 months, losing a total of 40lbs so far.

I did some cardio during the winter, but mostly it was on my elliptical trainer and I did very little cardio, mainly did weights and some HIIT.

Anywho,

I started to jog last week, I ran 5km a couple times and I ran 2.5km a couple times..

Just wondering if there are any tips to jogging or anything you want to share with me for jogging... I am aiming to lose the lower belly fat/love handles so I figured I would do a lot more cardio now that I shed a lot of weight.

thanks a lot for the help!

Start off slow. If you are flatfooted, get shoes designed for flatfooted runners.

I bought some good running shoes.. do i stretch before or afterwards?

and I am thinking of getting an HR monitor lol

thanks guys,

and also I feel like out of breath after the first 1.5km I run.. I guess this will diminish over time?

I usually stop like, 2-3 times when I run my circuit because I feel like my heart is going to burst out of my chest lol.

If you are out of breath too quickly, you may be going at too high an intensity for endurance. You may want to either back off the intensity to stay aerobic to go longer, or go all out for short sprints interspersed with low intensity intervals (the latter is called high intensity interval training, or HIIT).

i know of HIIT, i am talking about running outside though, my goal is to run distance and not time.. so basically should I run slower then?

Yes, either run at a slower pace and work up the pace over time, or run at the pace you're currently running at, but take walking breaks before you feel like you will burst. Over time, then increase the time you can run at that pace before needing to take the walking break, until you build your cardio capacity such that you can maintain it for the full run without walking or bursting. :)
