Jogging and HIIT

Right now i am running for about 1-3 miles everyday in the morning as soon as i walk up. I have heard about HIIT and i am willing to try this technique. But i have to ask will this type of training actually work and will it be better then jogging at a moderate pace for 1-3 miles. After my running i'm breathing heavily and my heart is pounding fast.
 
Well its going to mainly depend on how long you do the HIIT running and at what intensity.

I've heard some good things about HIIT, so I'd give it a try, or maybe integrate it into your running a few times a week for some variety.
