Welcome to my past, present, and future physical facts of a boring yet unusual nature. I will detail what I have done and will do. Please correct me when I am wrong and learn from me in the rare event I do something unorthodox and successful.
Here is a summary of what I've done so far:
March 2008: I weighed in at a whopping 251 lbs. and couldn't even stay awake through the afternoon. I hadn't exercised in any way in about 10 years. I drank massive amounts of alcohol and ate about 5000 calories of pizza, fried novelties, and hamburgers daily. I was highly depressed. I was weak beyond description. I suppose the best description is I couldn't even do 3 or 4 pushups. I couldn't walk from my truck to my house without gasping for air and sweating like a dancing mule.
March 23, 2008: I made the decision. I began a 3 week hypoallergenic body detoxification and began 45 minute "burst training" workouts 6 times per week. Here were my goals:
1. To be able to do tons of pushups, of which I could only do 3 or 4.
2. To be able to do pullups, of which I couldn't do a single one.
3. To gain endurance and overal quickness.
4. To get some new clothing that didn't make me look like a manatee (42" waist, etc).
May 2008: After body detoxification and 6 weeks of burst training, I decided to create a long term lifestyle of eating and exercise. The diet consisted of nuts, fruits, massive amounts of lean meats, a full spectrum of vegetables, and 3L of spring water per day. I supplemented with Omega 3, a plant sourced multi vitamin, and whey protein. The exercise plan was weight lifting in medium weight for which I divided 4 muscle groups (back/bi, chest/tri, shoulders/abs, legs) and did 1 full weight workout of each group per week. That's 4 workouts, to which I added an additional 3 cardio workouts per week. The idea here was to gain strength while continuing a slow and consistent weight loss.
July 2008: My results had been astonishing, so I decided to further my goals a bit. I decided I wanted to hit 17% body fat to attain "physical fitness" which was something I thought impossible. I also began running, which was something I couldn't even try to do before. I began training with a friend who is a sponsored marathon runner. He put me on path to eventually compete in 5k and 10k races.
September 2008: 6'2" tall and 199.8 lbs. at 17.59% body fat. I am ALMOST "physically fit". I can bang out sets of 50 pushups so HOOWAH! Mission accomplished there. I can even do a couple of sets of underhanded pullups with proper form, then it falls apart but I am really pleased to be this close to banging out good sets of proper pullups. I run a 5k in 24 minutes and a 10k in 54 minutes.
Goals: I am going to run the Turkey Trot in Dallas Texas on Thanksgiving morning. It's an 8 mile run. I have yet to run one at a set pace, so I guess my goal is 80 minutes or something HAHAHAHA Then I am going to eat an entire pumpkin pie and drink a 3L bottle of Chimay Grande Reserve. Sometime this year I want to go hit the "bod pod" and have it say my body fat is under 17%. I also want to get hit on by a hot chic, which has never happened to me in my entire life.
So I guess I will check in with some progress reports at the end of October or something.
