Japan Baby!!!

Does anybody like Japan? I love Japan and anything Japanese. Italians like myself have always been fascinated by Japanese culture, way of life, style etc.. and they feel the same way for Italians. Lets talk "made in Japan" :p

Let's not?

Japan's just another country, with it's own line of problems. I don't know where you got that they're fascinated with Italy....

And I doubt that Italy is fascinated with Japan. I think you're the only or one of the few to actually be. :p

I like Japanese gadgets, I have them all over the house.

In Japan, you can load your mobile phone with some sort of credit and use it to pay at the store, rail station and anywhere else where credit cards are in use. You just place it on a special scanner to pay for your $5 ticket etc.

When you get home you can upload it with more $$$ for use…that means you don’t need to go around with your wallet.

Oh, you can also use your mobile phone to lock the door at home in case you forgot when you left in a hurry. You can even use it to open the door and let in a friend in your house before you arrive.

I don’t know about Montreal but that technology is not in London yet.

Japan is light years ahead of the rest of us…am relocating to Tokyo!

i like japanese culture too. lol i can even speak alittle. haha my best friend was japanese. its a very different culture. like shaking hands is a nono and the deeper the bow means more respect to certain ppl in the hierarchy

Japan is not an advanced culture.

Currently USA and Finland are more technologically advanced than it.

Don't just state sterotypical reply's based on some little "gadgets" that they have.

You must be living in a different world…Finland does not even appear anywhere on the radar of the most technologically advanced. They are still living in stone age. The most popular electronics are Japanese…think of Sony, LG…Toyotas are also Japanese as is any reliable car on this planet.

I beg to differ on the car part, I work in the automotive aftermarket, let me assure you I sell as many parts for Toyota as I do Honda, Nissan, Ford, Chevy, Chrysler...

Lets not bicker on how "technologically advanced" one country is in comparison to another, technology is worldwide, not inclusive to a country.

Just because companies make "walkmans" and cellphones that act as credit cards doesnt mean they're the most technologically advanced.

I'll fight you on this. Just because the TYPICAL person, like yourself, where you think of the most 2d reasons, thinks something advanced doesnt make it so.

Japan is NOT the most ech. advanced country.

Canadian by nature not by choice, its says canadian on a piece of paper but my blood and culture and lifestyle is 100% Italian and I have dual-citizenship too.

Japan had the PSP first. They pwned us. Also, Japanese culture in terms of work "ethic" is really stupid. Just thought I'd like to tell you.

LOL! I appreciate the overall cleanliness of Japan compared to cesspools like China. When I visit an Asian country, it's gonna be Japan.

Those are pretty broad sweeping statements... first off... I'd bet that anyone who has a written language, mathematics, science and literature would be considered an "advanced culture" by anthropologists. The only truth that statement is that Japan is a country, not a culture.

As far as the US having better technology, I would disagree... as far as PCB printing and microchips go, both Japan and Taiwan put the U.S. to shame... I would bet Finland falls into a similar category of disgrace here...

Fiber on premisis is just being *tested* in the U.S., whereas ultra-fast broadband in Japan is ultra-cheap. You can get 10Mb up and downstream to your home for less than the same cost as many business class T1s (1.5Mb u/d) in the states... more bandwidth = more advanced :p

We have no trains that can go as fast as the shinkansen in the U.S. and I've never heard of finland having something similar, public transit in Japan is much better than anything I've used on the east or west coasts of the United States.

Japan has a national healthcare system that seems as fair as any public health care could possibly be, they have made social security an opt-in program... shows some pretty "advanced" thinking if you ask me. They built an island and put a moving airport on it that survived an earthquake of over 7 on the rictor scale without even a broken window and managed to decrease the following tsunami damage to mainland. The Japanese earthquake prediction system "can be rated among the world's best" according to some sources. Modern animation techniques come from Japanese animators... nearly all eyeglasses and lenses in the U.S. come from Japan (according to my optometrist), this would explain why my very stylish tinted glasses cost me just over $100 in Japan and would cost more than double here in the states. Japanese automotive manufacturers can be credited for many, if not a majority, of recent advances in emissions controls, fuel efficiency and power:displacement. Some of the best advances in robotics are coming out of Japan right now...

Not everything great in the world today comes from Japan, but I have to seriously disagree with comments that they are not advanced or that the USA is better. Since I don't hear finland coming up a lot in discussions about great technological advancements, I'd need a little more evidence than the above quote.

Cheers.

Totally owned...

Anyway, it's not so much that their healthcare shows "'advanced' thinking" as much as it shows their lack of problems similar to that of the US. Our healthcare is skyhigh because those who don't pay for healthcare get cared for nonetheless while those who pay for healthcare in turn pay for those who didn't pay. That's a big part of the problem.

Well, for the record, I'm not really a fan of socialized medicine in most forms. Just pointing out that they have a good healthcare system that took some thought and "advanced" planning.

Japanese trains have the best record in the world for being on time. Recently a train in a certain route was two minutes late…the first time in 18 years. Two minutes was regarded as very late…no, actually I am exaggerating, but Japan has the most timely trains.

Here is the dark side of an emerging Japanese culture. It has emerged recently that folks are meeting online and agreeing on a communal suicide. Recently 18 folks were found in a rural lane having committed suicide together. They all had met on the internet and organised it. They met face to face for the first time when they carried out the evil act.

That was not an isolated incident. The police are now hanging out on the cyberspace to prevent this regular occurrences.

Well, it is said the hard work culture is driving this individuals to do this…if you think you didn’t accomplish much during the last week, life may not be worth it.

These are few individuals, but then a country is made and defined by the behaviour of its inhabitants.

In todays gobal village it's the companies, not the countries, which are technologically advanced. If there's a demand for it, and the ability to pay any country can have the most advanced stuff.
