It's never too late

Just wanted to say hi all! This week officially marks the two year point in my weight loss journey. I started at 400 lbs at the age of 51, and when I stepped on the scale last week I was 257. Still would like to see what I look like after another 30 lbs lost, but I'm in no rush! The point is though that it's never too late to start making small changes and getting yourself going in the right direction.
I haven't woken up a single day in the last two years asking myself "how much longer do I have to do this?"... because I KNOW that any weight lost via deprivation is just temporary. So I feel good about myself and I just decided recently that I kind of now have a duty to start going public and share what I've learned and see if I can start helping other people in any way I can. Seems only fair, to be honest.
Good luck to everyone on their journey, and happy to answer any questions!

Hey Frank, welcome to the forum! Wow, congrats on your whole weight loss journey! It sounds like you've done really well. I wouldn't say you have a "duty" to share your experience, but you could definitely help a few people. And we appreciate you coming here to share what worked for you along the way. I look forward to seeing your posts!

Thanks so much, PLB! I did start a blog about my journey, and where I'm posting recipes I've used and tips and tricks I've learned, but not sure if it's the kind of thing that you're not supposed to post here. Let me know if you think I should post a link to it or not. Happy to send it to you privately for you to check... like I said, just looking to help folks if I can.

Hey Frank, that would be great if you sent me a link privately. Thanks for asking first!

Hey Frank, I will appreciate learning from you. I just started a few days ago at 320 and am trying to get things figured out. It is great to hear from someone who has lost almost 150 lbs, that is quite an accomplishment. Tell us how, I am not the only one who would want to know.

One of the easiest things to tell you Rob is that you lose the weight a day at a time, and a pound at a time.
Losing 150 pounds sounds extreme, but honestly I don't feel like I've done that. All I did yesterday was got up and did my 24 hours worth of eating well and being active, and then I punched out and handed it over to the "me" from today... and when I'm done I'll give it to the guy from tomorrow.
That's how you have to look at it.
As for the actual method? I'm kind of attacking it bit by bit on my blog so that people really understand it, but basically it's important to make small changes that you can integrate into your life. And once you've done that, make some other ones.
But anytime you get out over your skis and are forcing yourself to try to lose weight by depriving yourself of certain things (i.e. the way you would on a traditional diet) you're just playing with fool's gold. Because you can't deprive yourself forever. And once you stop doing that, the weight comes back. That's why we yo yo.
You honestly took the first and most important step, you started.
Because this is already way more of a ramble of information than I'm sure you wanted, I'll leave you with just one bit of iron clad (in my mind logic) which I use all the time:
As long as you don't put a time-table on your weight loss, and as long as you say right now that you're not going to give up? Then whatever your goal weight is? It's IMPOSSIBLE to fail in your quest to achieve it.
Because either A) you WILL achieve it or B) you'll be on your way to achieving it. You might stumble, or fall, or whatever. But as long as you get back up and keep going... you can't fail!
Shoot me a PM if you have any specific questions, happy to answer them!

WOW! Amazing work Frank! You’re 100% right. It’s never too late and even losing a small amount can dramatically improve you’re quality of life.

How’d you do it? Did you do it “alone” or with a buddy?

I know I feel 10,000 times better now after losing 75lbs; I can only imagine what losing 150 would be like!

Thanks so much! And congrats on the 75 lb weight loss, that’s fantastic!

As for how I did it? I honestly don’t think anyone does it alone... I think we all need a team around us to make it easier. And how you bring people in to help you is a big factor in your long term success. My wife and I were both helping each other right from the start, which of course helps with the food shopping, menu planning and all that.. which is a big part of it. I just wrote something about team building so let me send you a link!
