Weight-Loss Is whey protein good for weight loss?

It's calories. If it is more calories overall in the day than you burn then no. It's food. There isn't anything really magical about it.

Exactly. Its just food.

Personally, I find whey to be most useful when going through a bulking phase, where you intend to put on weight. Am I trying to drop weight? I'll pass.

not really. the only benefit is its an easy way to get protein but most people overdue it

I find it a great whey (sorry) to get protein when I am busy with work etc. It is very useful in shakes when you want to pack a serving of protein in quickly without trying to cook etc.

I have used it in the past very successfully to drop weight. The problem is however that as far as I am concerned it is not a substitute for eating well. Perhaps in the short term it can be used to substitute meals but long term you will not be able to stick to it and you will be missing a lot of essential vitamins/minerals etc.

Good call - I suppose my situation was a bit different. I tend to focus on protein in all of my meals, so I figured the extra protein I got from the whey was just gravy. That was until I began to wonder if the extra calories were really helping me or hurting me on my eventual goals, which was to lose weight. I also typically work out at night, so if I had a whey shake, it was a recovery shake afterwards, which means I had already eaten dinner.

I still prefer the use of whey when on a GAIN diet, because the extra protein is going to aid in building new muscle.

I am looking into whey protein shakes and drinking them for breakfast only...is this good or bad for weight loss??

Honestly, it is far better to eat, rather than drink your calories. I would stay away from protein shakes etc. Make yourself a good healthy breakfast that will keep you full until lunch and you will be much better off :)

And whey itself isn't anything special. In fact it isn't even the ideal protein for bulking up purposes for everyone (it depends on your unique needs). But that isn't your question so i won't get into it here.

Eat real food...much better for you in the long run. My two cents.
