Hello everyone, I was a member a long time ago. I write you, with some really bad news. I currently am the biggest I have ever been in my life. I cannot believe that I am so close to 400 pounds. I weighed myself and I was 367.6 pounds. I am here to gain motivation and some inspiration and tips. I am going to keep it simple, I am going to count my calories. My exercise level has gone from a little bit, to ZERO. I am hoping to change that as well. I have my fitbit, and will be shooting for 10k steps daily. Eventually I want to be able to get a gym membership, but right now it will be walking. Here goes nothing and hopefully the only thing I lose is weight!!!

Welcome back :)

Weight loss IS possible for you, the key is never giving up !

Hey Shy J.

Of course it's possible for you to lose weight, it absolutely is. My peak weight was about the same as yours, 360 lbs years ago. I was at 320 when I started here and today I am at 215. No reason you can't do the same, guarantee you I am no wiser or smarter than you, probably older and uglier though.

Mega's advice is right on, you need to start a diary on the Weight Loss Diary page (https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/ ) and tell us more about yourself and your goals. Post your progress there and people will be watching and providing helpful support and guidance. Your plan looks solid, but we can help with guidance as you go along.

I am looking forward to following your progress.

Hey mate,

I Started by walking then rediscovered my love of cycling.

as Flyer said don’t understate the value of walking. It’s actually really helpful. I found because I was getting exercise in my mood improved and I wanted to keep going. The thing that worked well for me was that I was never doing it TO lose weight; I started as a competition (walking distance with some people at work) and realised I’d forgotten how much I loved exercising. I started losing weight because I was enjoying myself so much. This may not be the same for you but my advice is live in the moment; don’t look back and don’t look too algae into the future. Every day as it comes; every step as it comes and you WILL see results.

good luck!

You got this!! I am 37 years old and on I suffered with mental health and I never thought getting healthy was possible but it is and I am determined. I've been in the gym almost one month and although I can't see a huge difference, I feel so much better already. You are going to feel good before you start to look the way you want to and that's where it starts. Let's do it together!!!

Cheer leaders are not going to help you. You know what to do but maybe you don't know exactly what to do. You know that you need to move more and eat less but you are currently eating more and moving less. Right? Explain why?

You don't need a gym. You can go to Youtube and follow along with exercise videos but lack of exercise is only a small part of the issue. It's damn hard to get fat by eating nutrient dense low calorie food. To get as fat as you are, you are eating lots of bad food. That's a choice. Get rid of that slop and stop buying it. No more eating for pleasure and if you get hunger pangs, SUCK IT UP and drink some water! The more often you suck it up the easier it gets.

Here are your numbers.

  • Resting (basal) metabolic rate: 3931 calories per day
  • Typical daily activities: 1941 calories per day

  • Total calories burned: 5872 per day
Note: 3500 calories = 1 pound weight loss

It requires a whopping 5872 calories to maintain your current weight. If you are serious about losing weight you will start by cutting your calories to around 3900 per day for the next month. If you do you will lose around 14 pounds the first month. Science!

If you stop eating bad food be prepared to do a lot of chewing. You need to eat mindfully. Are you willing to do the simple task of accounting for you calories? If not, then don't bother because yo yo dieting can be worse than being fat. I hope this helps.

thats a bit harsh mate. I understand your point but the op already stated he would start counting calories and that he was starting by walking.

there’s information and there’s kicking a bloke while he’s down. The latter is not helpful.

Here is what's harsh. Sleep apnea - Diabetic amputations - Heart disease - Knee replacements - Stroke - Diabetic blindness - Peripheral Neuropathy -Premature death -

The other thing is, obesity increases the cost of health care.

This is called motivation and tough love. Mollycoddling only enables them. This is a matter of life and death. Eating is a choice. What a person puts in their mouth is a choice.

The truth is, only 5% of the people who attempt to lose weight succeed. The truth is, the food and medical industries are exploiting the obesity epidemic. The truth is, obesity is the third leading cause of death.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The dude wanted motivation and I'm telling him what works. I would like to see him succeed but if he keeps doing what he's been doing he will fail. If the truth hurts someone's feeling but saves their life, I think that's a good thing. What's worse hurt feelings or premature death? If this dude doesn't get with the program he won't make it to 50. He has to decide what's more important, yummy food in dangerously large amounts or a long healthy life. Right now it looks like he's choosing the obese lifestyle. Let's hope he makes better choices and saves his life because nobody can do it for him.

When it comes to something this serious this is not the time to mince words.

:iagree: There is no need to bully anyone & bullying will not be tolerated here. This is a supportive forum.

OK then, it will not tell the truth if I think it might hurt somebody's feelings. I'll just pray for them when they are getting a diabetic amputation and I will happily pay for their insulin and other medications related to their inability or unwillingness to eat responsibility.

The truth is, only 5% of people who lose weight and keep it off. Those people do it for their kids, spouse or society.

The dude wanted motivation and I'm telling him what works.
1) Lectures aren´t motivating for most people. The exception being if you´re bringing in completely new information. But you´re not: you´re repeating what every fat person hears at least ten times a day, in that exact hateful tone they´re used to hearing it. Fat-shaming makes most people gain weight, not lose it, because it makes them miserable and food is so tied up with emotion. If you want people to believe they can do something you have to build them up, not tear them down.
2) You´re not telling him what works. You´re telling him one component of something that works for you (so far). You know what worked for me? Therapy. Learning to value myself more so I´m more willing to invest time and energy into myself. Doesn´t mean everyone needs therapy. Some people need cooking classes. Others need physical activities they genuinely enjoy, a more supportive partner, less stress at work, medical attention, or who knows what else.

This is dangerous advice, especially for somebody who is just starting out like @SHYJESTA most youtube videos show dangerous form and out dated advice. As already mentioned, walking is a great exercise and there are members here who have had exelent results with simply walking and improved nutrition.

It requires a whopping 5872 calories to maintain your current weight.

You are massively over estimating the OPs current maintenance calories, 3,636 is a closer estimate, however even with additional information it would still only ever be an estimate unless measured in a lab.

Here is what's harsh. Sleep apnea - Diabetic amputations - Heart disease - Knee replacements - Stroke - Diabetic blindness - Peripheral Neuropathy -Premature death -

There is no shortage of thin people with these diseases.

Right now it looks like he's choosing the obese lifestyle.

No, he is not, he is here to make changes, small steps at a time

The truth is, only 5% of the people who attempt to lose weight succeed.

Please provide your source.

@SHYJESTA you can do this !

A bit harsh lol.
Don't think you should encourage them to eat that much food either. Plus I'm pretty sure that that isn't exactly true. They should be eating 1200-1600 calories or so max to lose weight. And should exercise. At his weight even eating under 1000 isn't that bad.
