So when I run it almost feels like one leg is from a different body. It's my left leg, which is also my weaker side. So naturally, I expected that my left leg would feel my running more than my right. However the difference is fairly drastic.
It almost feels as if my left leg is working too hard. I start to feel tension in the back around the largest point of the calf muscle. A slight amount of pain may be noticeable as well, however it doesn't slow me down, it just feels like I'm really exhausting the muscle.
This can start happening after maybe 2-4 minutes of jogging.
At the same time, my right leg feels great. When this starts setting in on the left side, the right side feels like it's just getting warmed up, as if it could easily carry me 2-4 times the distance without starting to feel like the left.
This is what confuses/concerns me. When my left side feels like it's getting worked to the point that I should stop to avoid overworking, my right leg feels like it's just getting ready to start pushing hard. My knees and upper legs feel fine, it's just the calf muscle at the back.
Do I simply need to work on strength training my legs to build the muscle on the left? Or does this sound like something more might be going on?
I have noticed when standing or walking normally a slight instability in my left leg. Almost as if the leg doesn't feel as supported. I sometimes find it easy to stumble towards my left a bit or to slightly lose balance when shifting my weight to my left.
I think I should also point out, it occured to me that running is not the only activity to cause this sort of pain.
When I tie my boots too tight, after walking I start to get the same sort of tension in the calf muscle, except that's when it gets really bad and does start to slow me down. It's not something that happens often, just when I'm not thinking and pull my laces too tight in a hurry. Loosening the laces relieves the pain from this almost immediately. I don't do my running in boots however. Just thought I should mention that I do get the same pain, except much worse, when I walk in boots which are too tight.
Also, this is much more profound in the left leg. Even with my boots too tight, my right leg doesn't seem to get into as much pain or discomfort.
I've got a doctor's appointment to get something else looked at so I'll bring it up then, but can I get some input from others for the time being?
