Is this exercise danggerous?

I was wanting to add an oblique exercise, and I found this, dumbbell side bends.

I tried it a bit, and it felt okay, though I read some people mentioning it could cause injury. Obviously, anything could cause injury if you do it wrong, though is this exercise pre-disposed to cause back injury?
And if it is, what do you guys do for oblique exercise?

I wouldn't bother with it personally. Bicycle crunches are good for all round ab work including obliques. Russian twists are good and side bridges/planks because they get the core working.

try the oblique pick up. I tried posting a link to it be aparently I don't have enough posts. check out a vid of this exercise.
