Sport Is this brown rice?

Sport Fitness
Ever since I decided to eat brown rice, I have been buying this certain rice which I assumed was brown rice for whatever reason....and now I am not too sure.

The brand name is Golden Canilla, and it's called Enriched Long Grain Parboiled Rice.

Ingredients: Long Grain Parboiled Rice enriched with Iron (Ferric Orthophosphate), Niacin, Thiamine (Thiamine Mononitrate) and Folic Acid.

Anyone have a verdict if this is brown rice or not?

this might help

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parboiled_rice

it says that it is "nutritionally similar to brown rice" but as far as the GI of it, its hard to say. as long as you are eating it PPWO you should be fine.

It sounds like it has been "processed" to some extent (boiled and enriched) and the bran removed. I'd stick with real "unprocessed" brown rice, with the bran intact!

Is brown rice uncommon in stores? I was not able to find any brown rice in my local food store.

Is this parboiled rice still an ok substitute?

Brown rice is pretty common. That doesn't sound like brown rice in the first post because it has no fiber. Brown rice has a decent amount of fiber.

I definitely want to go browner, but I was hoping this was an ok substitute til I finally get true brown rice.

Oh by the way, does brown rice taste any different. I am hoping brown rice still tastes just as good as this parboiled rice.

Yeah, it's a bland taste, but some soy sauce and garlic herb seasoning in the water while boiling it will bring it's taste up.

As long it's not another whole wheat taste, it will be fine. I get enough whole wheat tastes in my diet as it is.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Yeah brown rice isnt actually like really brown in color, its just darker than white rice and has a slight brown hue to it. Its sold in every grocery store ive ever been in.

gee i don't know why dont' you check if the color of the rice is brown or not...
