Weight-Loss

hello,

i am a 5'7, 245 lb, 28 year old male. looking to lose weight!
my one weakness that i just can't get over...burgers. i cannot eat the ground turkey/chicken or tofu - the taste makes me want to  it's so disgusting (again, to me).
so...i figure i'd compromise ...
before i'd eat just regular medium ground beef, fried in vegetable oil, and put on a white bun with ketchup, mayo, mustard & cheddar cheese (and maybe some bacon!) with a heaping side of frozen french fries (topped with ketchup and salt) and all washed down with a large glass of coke.

...
my new version...

extra lean ground beef, baked, over a grate (to drop the grease). then patted heavily with paper towel. put on a whole wheat bun, topped with avocado, sliced tomato & mustard. with a small baked sweet potato on the side. with a large glass of ice water.

i'll only be eating this once a week. but is this a healthy way of doing it, you think?

thanks!

In a word, no. It's not healthy. A burger will never be healthy because:

1. It breaks the food combining rules (meat + potato)
2. The meat contains toxins and it is acidic
3. The processed mustard is acidic and packed with chemicals.

Now, the only good thing is that you're eating it once a week. :)
If in the rest of the time your nutrition is healthy, then the overall impact of burgers will be less severe.
It also helps if you eat a salad along with burger.

I think that it sounds a pretty healthy compromise solution.

I agree with the other poster that serving with a large salad is a good idea.

I've have often seen the suggestion of replacing all or part of the bun with lettuce leaves.

Be wary that things like burgers and sausages are often fairly high in sodium so can cause such things as water retention.

It may come as a surprise for you, but if you'll read my book, you'll understand what I mean.
( it seems that writing the title here is considered spam )

Long story short, if you like burgers, eat them.

HOWEVER, make them a special treat, make them a special event. You should eat them as rarely as possible (one burger every two weeks or so) and in the rest of time, eat healthy. This approach is definitely better because you're avoiding the stress of eating foods you know are bad for you. The stress is as bad as the foods themselves, because body reacts to it immediately, protecting itself and not allowing the release of stored fat.

Don't feel guilty when eating that burger: instead, enjoy every little bite. Don't think it is bad or good for your health.

In the meantime, enjoy every meal you know is healthy and develop a positive attitude towards eating. You're not on a diet - you're simply eating different foods. You are discovering a whole new range of foods that will enrich your life.

I used this approach myself and it works.
Good luck!

A successful diet doesn't completely exclude your favorite foods, but it makes them a rare and special treat that you grant yourself to not go crazy.
