Is this a good workout?

Before I give the details on my workout I'll start by saying I'm 16 years old, just so that your feedback might be more relevant.

I go out jogging in the mornings for about 2 - 3 miles, 3 - 4 times a week in order to burn fat. That is a distance I can cope with pretty easily and I do it in about 30 minutes. First question: is this good or does it need altering?

My aim is to get a nice 6-pack, so I've decided to start with some ab exercises maybe 4 times a week. I was thinking of normal crunches, reverse crunches (lying leg raises I think) and seated knee twists each for 2 sets of 20 reps. Is that a pretty good mixture to get an overall workout for my abs, or should I add some other exercises in?

Is it best to do the jogging and ab workouts on the same day, or have them alternating?

I get a pretty good workout already for the rest of my body because I ride BMX bikes, which means jumping ramps and digging jumps in woods...but if I was to add in some exercises for my pecs then where abouts in my workout do you think they should go?

*edit: I just realised this is probably in the wrong thread

4 times a week is too much. Doing crunches alone won't get you the 6 pack you want.

To quote Spockafina here "Abs are made in the kitchen" I've heard her say that countless times, she can't say it enough. Your diet is the key.

so what other exercises should I add or substitute into the workout for my abs? The ones that I mentioned all work different parts of your abs, or so it said in an article that I read.

Would you say twice a week is a better workout for abs then?
I keep reading conflicting articles all over the place, some say that abs don't need recovery time like other muscles, whereas I think somebody said on here that a 72 hour recovery time should be used.

doing 1000 sit ups or crunches a day wont get you your perfect abs you want to see, you already have perfect abs they are just hidden under layers of fat, you need to do cardio to lower over all body fat (there is no such thing as spot training), and like allen said about what spock says i would say at least daily "abs are made in the kitchen" you need a clean diet to have a "cut" body

My diet is already altered to avoid fatty foods, and like I said, I go jogging about 4 times a week in the mornings. That has to be about the 50th time I've seen it written that the pack doesn't come without the fat burning cardio exercises, but all I'm asking is for advice on how to compliment the cardio by building the ab muscles up so that they will stand more of a chance of being visible as I'm reducing the fat.

And they've given you your answer. Clean eating, cardio, and hitting the weight room are the only sure fire ways of keeping a tight waistline. You can do all the ab exercises you want but until the fat comes off, they won't show.

a great exercise u can do pretty much whenever u want (preferably in the morning) to work all ur abs at the same time, try doing matt furey's Farmer Burn.

1. stand straight up, arms loose at sides.
2. breathe in as much air as possible and hold ur stomach in (meaning dont let the air let ur stomach float outward)
3. close ur mouth and nose tightly, and try to push the air out ur body, do not let the air out. hold for 4-5 seconds, and then SLOWLY let the air out of ur body, then after u let the air out, get a whole new supply of air and repeat for about 5 reps.

i started doin this a few days ago. matt says itll flatten up ur stomach line as well as tone the abs. and in just a few days i can feel it working, hope it works for you too!
