is running first thing in the morning more effective?

Any exercise in the morning is a good way to start the day, it really wakes up your body and gets your metabolism firing. Although, I would still suggest having something to eat beforehand, even if something small and light.

More effective than what? Not running? Then yes.

Than running at 4pm? Depends on many, many factors.

The key is to do it when you can and when you will stick with it.

Actually it is true, exercising straight from bed is the best time to lose fat.

If you eat beforehand you run the risk of inhibiting lipolyis, thus less fat loss.

i find exercising in the morning the best thing :) But if you are struggling to get out of bed or extremely tired or something, then it's not worth it

Although there seems to be quite a bit of debate on this subject, here are two views from the research:

. The last sentence: Although there was a decrease in exercise-induced glycogen breakdown and an increase in proteins involved in fat handling after fasting training, fat oxidation during exercise with carbohydrate intake was not changed.

not to mention that how much fat you burn isn't all that relevant. You want a negative calorie balance at the end of the day. That's your goal.
in theory, burning fat (from body stores, not dietary) might be a good thing sometimes. Say you're gaining weight at a very slow pace so you're in a surplus (IE, you're not losing fat off a deficit in your diet) and you exercise a lot of middle intensity to burn fat off your body. That might help you lose fat or just stay lean through your bulk. Since if you did cardio to take down your glycogen stores (of course, all cardio burns fat aswell, but you get my point), that would just get refilled and wouldn't drop into your fat deposits since you're not in a deficit.

But then the whole fasted cardio is shot to **** when in trained men, some research has shown (like g8r80 pointed out) that fat oxidation isn't increased in a fasted state (using low and middle intensities, but who does HIIT on an empty stomach?).

g8r80 - Well of course that would be the result, the rise in insulin would have inhibited fat oxidation.

How much weigh you lose does matter. Of course you will want to be in a deficit, butyou prefer to lose fat than "weight" itself.

But the study compared carbs with no food... and carbs didn't inhibit fat oxidation compared to the fasted group.

It is obvious that, if you do any exercise when you are hungry, it will burn the extra fat that is stored. And running is one such.

few tips are-
Sleep Early,so that you will wake up early and that will be a good start.
Also maintain a calendar , which will motivate you .

Yeh, When I wake up, I am usually very very hungry :/ I'd have to eat to gain some energy, even then I'd have to wait 30minutes minimum for my food to settle.

did you at all read any of the replies in this thread?

From a non-scientific point of view, do YOU like running more in the morning?
