Weight-Loss

For years I was under the impression that the key to losing weight is switching to foods with less or no fat. Recently now more and more information gets published that it is actually the carbohydrates that are bad for you. This is getting really confusing. If we would take all the fat out of our diets and then limit the carbs, then all is left is protein...does this mean we should only eat Tuna and white chicken or is there a different way of interpreting all the information we are getting.

Personally I watch the fat percentage of the foods I eat(under 30%, better 20% or less), but even more the kind of fat that is in the foods. I found that for me it works best if I eat a combination of 1 part fat, 2 parts protein and 4 parts carbs (veggies and fruit). Last year I have tried to eat pretty close to that rule for approximately 10 months and I lost about 10lbs without any extra effort at all - I wasn't even exercising on a regular basis. Once I stopped - approx 6 weeks before Christmas...notice anything here...and started eating a higher amount of carbs again (bread, cookies - not too many of those, pizza and pasta etc.) my weight started going up right away...I was still watching the fat so it wasn't too bad, but still...I gained weight

Anyhow... I thought I throw this out here and see what everyone else thinks about low fat, no fat, high carbs, high protein and whatever else they try to sell you as the right way to losing those extra pounds.

Really looking forward to your opinions

HI Lisa,

personally I think there is more than one way to lose weight and be healthy. You have to find the one that works for you. If you are an active person and don't overeat on any of the meals, there is nothing wrong with eating carbs - your body can use it as fuel right away, only what doesn't get used gets stored as fat. However if you constantly give your body what it needs, you won't lose weight - logical, right. Also for some foods to actually receive the nutrition you need fat to break them down. For example carrots - you can eat them by the pound - if you don't add any fat at all it's no different than drinking water - your body can't use it. As for the protein - you can get that in powder form and use it as recommended to stay healthy - you don't have to eat tuna or chicken all the time. Many foods that are classified as carbs contain a whole lot of vitamins and minerals that we need to stay healthy (veggies and fruits), but there's also a supplement for everything....

Well now I've typed a lot - probably won't help you at all:D but I put my two cents in.

McDonald's new line

did you hear from McDonald's new line of lean food.
I laughed my head off when I saw the commercial, a tray with a burger patty topped with a delicious slice of process cheese, 3 strips of bacon (haha) and no bun, to get rid of the carbs and that is called the healthy alternative.I just wonder what these healthexperts are

Hahaha - that is really funny - but I don't want to know how many people will fall for it, which in turn is kind of sad. Luckily I never was a MacDonald's Fan...only their French Fries I used to like. I know that they are bad and don't even remember how they taste - that's how long it's been. :)

I really find it interesting that they are even allowed to do that. Think about it - a beef patty (probably not even lean ground beef), processed cheese, bacon:0...and where may I ask is the nutrition here???? If I wasn't such a cheerful and happy person, I could really get angry...some poor person might believe that this is healthy.

well, McD's is just following the Atkins plan ... just like subway. The only problem is that to have the Atkins plan work, you need to cut out the carbs ALL day, ALL week long. If you don't, then you are only going to gain weight. And, unfortunately, i think in general, people who visit McD's on a regular basis don't exactly follow any kind of 'diet', Atkins or other.

while that might be true that they put the "Atkins" Label on there, I still think that the food is unhealthy. I don't believe in Dr. Atkins Advice anyway. I agree that you shouldn't shy away from fat and should ensure that you get enough protein, but I like my fruit and veggies and cutting out any food group is wrong (imo)

Those fast food chains just don't want to lose their customers, so they have to follow that 'trend' and by stamping 'Atkins' on one of their products, they get to keep those customers who are following this current trend.

Everything you eat is going to have some sort of effect on you in one way or anything.. I heard Carbohydrates are bad for you at night, dont ask me why. I know its a common fact that fat is bad for you coz it clogs up your ateriers and can cause to heart attacks. Its alright to have some fat in your diet during the dayt, just be precautious on if its saturated or what. Thats the real killer. If you eat fatty foods it automatically goes to your stomach. Thats why sit ups/ crunches are efficent to do everyday no matter what, if you dont want to get that fat in your gut.
Macdonalfds is the worst food going, theres something like 25g of fat in a qauter pounder burger. Gross.

And also the Ice creams are made of pig fat and that can only be lost through sweating and doing really hard workouts.

hope that helps..or something..lol

Carbohydrates are fuel for your body and to be used right away, otherwise it gets store as fat. You don't need much energy for sleeping that's why the carbs you eat at night easily get stored as fat. So if you eat them during the day, your body can use them right away.

"It's important to work 30 minutes of physical activity into your day."

So here I go with being proud of my ten minutes a day...oh well I won't get discouraged and maybe I will get up to that 30 minutes sometime in the future...

How can you not believe in a diet that is scientifically proven? Its not always the best alternative for everyone due to some draw backs. But when your weight is affecting your health dramatically, you need something that works. If the participant is vigilant, Ive never seen it not work. I see it everyday. This diet is saving peoples lives in more than weight loss.

you gotto have a balanced diet, move and be active...that's the idea...:)
