let's start off by saying as of March 11, 2011 i weighed in at 257lbs. I'm 6'2" and 18 yrs old. i've always been a big guy growing up and for some reason i became determined to change my body. it's now june (obviously lol) and i now weigh in at 224lbs. i want to be down to 215 and then i'm sure i'll keep lowering as I get closer to the new goal.

what i've been doing is being very aware of what i eat and only eating 3 times a day. i cut out soda completely and if i have to have fast food, I'll opt for a healthier choice. put simple, i've been eating healthy. little to no exercise yet..but i do work in a kitchen so i'm constantly moving. however, i'm scared that i'm going about this diet the wrong way? my daily calorie intake is typically 1200-1400...i know i should be eating 2000 but thats probably about what i used to eat in the past! i know for a fact that if i ate 2000 calories a day, i would be putting weight back on. unfortunetly, i can tell that i'm starting to get more and more strict with my calorie intake as i'm scared to see the scale go up because i know that my diet isnt going to continue being successful forever.... any suggestions or comments?

I doubt you were eating 2000 calories back when you were eating junk food and drinking large amounts of pop (Probably much much more). You are in a big deficit sure but once you get to where you want to be you should slowly be reaching up between 2200 and 2400 calories (maintenance). These calories will be different mind you; they will be clean and nutritionally a/b grade calories (or at least should be)...not junk food and pop. 2000 calories of junk food doesn't compare to 2000 calories of clean foods as far as nutrients and thermic effect. Stay active and I do not see any reason you wouldn't be able to eat even 3000 cals a day with moderate exercise (3-5 times a week).

I did a TDEE (google it) and for 6'2 at 225 pounds you should be eating 2700 calories at a sedentary level (no activity) to keep the weight at 225. You are obviously extremely below that and while it is not advisable to eat below 1800 for males (or 20% below tdee especially at sedentary levels) without consulting your doctor...you obviously have been doing it for a while now and it seems to be working without too many side effects. I do not know how sustainable that will be for you being we all have different amounts of will power etc...but just keep in mind you WILL need to be eating in the 2000 cal range once you get to about where you want to be...if you insist on eating lower than that I STRONGLY recommend seeing you doctor just to be safe.
