Sport Is it bad if I don't eat a lot, and weight lifting?

As someone who goes to college, but also lifts, sometimes I don't eat very well for streches of time. Is it better just to not lift at all?

Also are vegetables really necessary?

Balanced diet is necessary. You can suppliment until your heart is content but nothing beats actual balanced diet when it comes to improving performance.
We all eat junk on occasion, those who claim not to are either lying or too sad to bother with, and I consider myself a sad boring old man.
Enjoy your food but try where practical to stick to the food pyramid, google will find this for you.

Have you heard about IIFYM? (If it fits your macros).

Basically you eat the required protein for the day, and as long as you reach your calorie goal and macros... you eat that *****! haha

Yes I know that an optimal diet is the way to go. But I'm not in an optimal position. I try to eat as balanced as possible, if I can't I have a multi-vitamin.

I will look into IIFYM. But currently I eat as much protein as possible, whether chicken/tuna/meat, or whey.

I would just try to get as much protein as you can. If you are not getting nearly enough on those days where your diet is poor, well basically you are breaking your muscles down and not giving them enough protein to properly recover and build back up. I completely understand how life gets in the way and there just isn't enough time to make good meals, but there are plenty of alternatives when that happens. Even if it means just downing a protein shake or a protein bar, at least it's something, and at least you'll hopefully still be getting a somewhat decent amount of protein to help build those muscles back up.

Well, it's not necessarily "bad" that you're not eating enough, it just really isn't good. It's bad if you're losing weight that you're not meaning to, but if you're hovering at a steady weight and you're not losing muscle and replacing it with fat (visual check) then you're probably still eating enough for your body to maintain its composition. (Keep in mind that I'm saying this with a grain of salt.)

If you're in relatively good health, I would say to just keep working out at a moderate rate. If you're wasting away, on the other hand, then it may be time to make a change to something.
