Sport Is coffee bad for you?

Can you have 3-4 cups a day or is that too much? I work in help desk and work evenings and it keeps me up. I can leave the sugar out if that helps.

I don't really know, so I'll try to point you in a good direction:

Choose Your Coffee Wisely

Q: Hey, you said at a seminar that decaf coffee is a bad idea. Why?

A: The chemicals used to get the caffeine out of coffee have been shown to be potent carcinogens (cancer causing). Now, there are some newer methods that supposedly remove the caffeine without chemicals (Swiss Water process), but in the end, drinking coffee without caffeine is like having a cheeseless cheese sandwich or a protein-free steak!

Also, most people who study carcinogens will tell you that the two most important things to buy organically are coffee and butter. These are the two most chemically laden foods you can buy if you don't choose organic. You can get organic coffee at Whole Foods. Some Starbucks locations also carry organic if you ask for it.

Interesting note, if you look at the research on coffee, you'll find that people who don't drink coffee die five years earlier than the people who do. One of the main reasons that has been advanced for this is that coffee is one of the only antioxidant-rich foods most people consume.

Also, it's the only bitter herb we consume. We know that bitter herbs are good for the health of the gallbladder. So, choose organic, fully caffeinated coffee.

Caffien in small amounts (No more then one cup a day) has been shown to have many health benefits. However, Coffee also has just as many down falls.
Possibly one of the worst is that it interferes with many vitamins and minerals absorptions. It negatively affects your CNS and not to even mention the Carcinogenic property's that Lei previously mentioned.

In fact woman over the age of 35 might want to avoid it all together. Caffine as i mentioned interfere with many vitamins and minerals especially Calcium. One study found woman who drank the most had the highest insistence of osteoporosis.

I don't know why this happens, but when I drink decaf coffee (I've only ever had decaf), it affects my mood. I am normally not prone to mood shifts or to feeling down, but on coffee, I get sad bursts when normally I feel up/optimistic.

Strange, Though not uncommon for some people to get mood swings on caffeine. Im not sure why people do though(on caffeine). However, all foods give the body a reaction and all body's respond differently to certain foods (to one degree or another). If something makes me feel bad, I don't eat it. I would suggest you avoid anything that can ruin your normally happy personality:).

:) I know! I don't know why it happens, but no way that I'll do a thing that drags me down.

Did I read here or somewhere else that maybe the processing of some coffees blocks the absorption of minerals. Maybe it has something to do with that--the coffee or the chemicals used to separate out the caffeine maybe interfere with my supplements. Either way, no coffee for me. Which is fine. I used it mainly to warm up when that really deep cold set in--but tea works just as well. (It's just that sometimes, tea is not as easy to find or when you do find it, it's just Lipton's tea: blah.)

Tea makes me more jittery than coffee. I've heard other coffee drinkers say the same.

Caffine is a drug like any other, abuse it and it has negative effects on your body. It does have very good health benefits if you stick to one or two cups a day though (a bit like red wine I guess)

However, I think all instant coffee should be banned, it tastes like crap. If you're only able to drink one mug a day then the least you could do is make it a good one
