Is Cardio&Weight-Lifting Pointless?

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forum, this is my first post. I'm in my early 20's, and in terrible shape. I'm very skinny but with a bit of weight around my hips and stomach. I'm wondering if I should start training and do as little cardio as possible while eating a lot, so that I can bulk up and cut down with some cardio later on, or whether I should try lifting weights and doing cardio at the same time? Will that cancel out any results? My goal isn't to get big, it's just to get in good shape (strong and healthy). What's the best approach?

This is probably an FAQ, but you hear so many answers it's nice to get experienced ones! Thanks.
 
id say if you lift like 3 times a week with rest days after each day with a cardio session on the last day.
