Iron vs. Sleep

...iron seems to win :(

After particularly intense workout days, I notice that I have an extremely hard time falling asleep. Tonight (technically yesterday) I had an extraordinary weight-training workout, and as has been the typical result, I haven't been able to fall asleep.

It's 6:46 am, I still haven't fallen asleep. And I have gym class in a few hours, though God knows where I'll be able to go or not.

Does anyone else have this problem, that on weight-lifting days, you can't fall asleep that night?

i've had that same problem, but i think the way to get around it is if you lift before you go to sleep, lift like, 3 hours before. that way, you can get home, drink your protein shake, and give your body time to cool down. after lifting and cooling down, your heartrate slows, making you sleepy. then you get some good sleep, if you can time it right. if you lift early in the morning or during the day, try to calm yourself before you go to sleep in another way. deep breaths, slow stretching, reading a book-help you lower your heartrate again so you can sleep better.

Judecca,

Are you taking an supps for energy before or during your workout?

When I trained at night I couldn't take any supps after approx 3PM or I wouldn't be able to sleep until well into the morning.
Sure I was taking around 300mg of caffeine with a bit o'ephedra before/during workouts...who knew it really keeps you awake?! (drenched in sarcasm)

when I used to take ephedra, if I took anything after 2pm, I was up half the night. For me, noon was my last call for ephedra.

Might try a hot shower or bath when you get home to help relax.

I used to have that problem when I did late workouts - like 9pm or so, I wouldn't start getting tired until about 3am-5am (jacked up my work bad) so I don't do that anymore.

I read an article on insomnia recently (I don't know how credible) that recomends running. Can't sleep, get up and run until you are exhausted - then sleep.

I usually cure my insomnia with good ol' fashion beer!

Thats just how the human body works. Everytime I've worked out anywhere near bedtime I could not sleep at all. I can't explain it but I read it somewhere and I've experienced it so it must be true. I usually workout 2 hours after waking up these days.

hi

when you exercise your body usually wakes up. that is one of the reasons why you should exercise in the morning. and if you do so at night it will be hard to sleep.

I have read alot on the subject or working out before sleep, because of my messed up schedule. There is no proof that working out before bed keeps you awake. It really depends on many factors including the person (most important), how active they are during the day, and how intense their workout is.

REALLY? I THINK I HAVE THE OPPOSITE; THE LAST couple of nights I haven’t gone on the bike and I’ve been up between 2- 5 AM appprox.
