intro, and a question

Hello,

I was a strapping lad back in high school, but now Im a big sexy muscle man covered in about 40-50lbs of fat...

Im 6' and right now 250lbs(265 when I started working out on 2/4). I carry 95% of my fat in my torso, my thighs look decent and my calves look AMAZING:D . But my torso... thats another story. I have a big ol gut and decent size boobies.

Im a lazy guy and if I dont work out with a buddy its REALLY boring to me. But I have been working out 28 of the last 34 days. So being a lazy guy with nobody to work out with I only work on my cest and stomach...

I have a crossbow(a wannabe bowflex) and I do 20 reps benchpress, 50 situps(with the same weight), and then 15 more reps on the bench. I know its not much but its better than nothing right... I have bumped up the weight by 10lbs twice now and tomorrow I will again.

and now the question(about time... I know)

Am I better off doing this every day or every other day?

Im not going to change my "workout" til I see more results and get more motivated, so trying to get me to do so is pretty much pointless right now(I said I was lazy...)

So far I have lost about 2-3 inches off of my waist and 15lbs. I bought a house and have a kid on the way so I dont have money to eat out, so my diet is also MUCH better. Ive got a large frame and am capable of having a decent amount of muscle on me so my goal is 215-220lbs and looking like I could crush you but Im not on roids

If you were able to read through all of this, Thanks!

I would so every other day. I'm not an expert but as far as the gut is concern it won't go away until overall body weight is reduce. If I understand correctly are you doing the situps with weights. Because I've heard that it will make it bulky and just push out the fat that you may have around your abs. ( giving that push out apperance making abs look bigger)

I won't try and get you to change your workout, but there are a few things you need to know.

1. 20 rep anything is pointless unless your goal is endurance. It will not build muscle anymore after the initial shock of going from doing nothing at all to something. (Couple weeks.)

2. You should not work the same body part every other day. Your body has to repair the muscle first before it can grow. Muscle growth will occur on the days you are not lifting. Do the bench press twice per week at most.

3. If you are trying to lose fat, you have to expend more calories than you take in. No way around it. Most people lose a hell of a lot of muscle when they diet. This can be prevented by lifting heavy weight, but your routine will not be adequate for that.

If you want motivation, try doing 5 sets of 5 reps for a while. Use heavy weight! If you're eating enough, you will see better results. Maybe it will motivate you to workout more seriously.

Also...abs can be done more often, but still not every day.

Thanks for the replies

I was trying to do the "more reps less weight helps burn more fat" thing but after some more research I found out what you just told me.

Yesterday I up'd the weight by 40 pounds and I was able to 10reps on bench, then I did 25 situps(with the same weight), 10 more reps on bench, 25 more situps and then I finished with 10 more reps on the bench...

I guess it still isnt enought weight though, you mentioned 5 reps and another site mentioned 5-6 reps so I guess I will be up'ing the weight again today to get that 5 rep balance point

Thanks for the help and suggestions
