Steve posted this in another thread here about Intermittent Fasting:
"It's different for everyone. I know people who successfully fast 16 hours per day and eat during the remaining 8 hours. It's the whole Intermittent Fasting (IF) approach and it works very, very well for some. They claim it controls their hunger, improves partitioning (where calories are going and coming from), fits their lifestyles better, etc.
But obviously that would not be for everyone."
When I was getting ready to start my new lifestyle I was paying attention to when I eat and now that I've started it seems to be something I have to address right away.
I tend to eat late in the day, very often supper (6pmish) can be my first meal of the day. Obviously I have consistently made the wrong food choices for me to get to this point (and I know exactly what they were, salty.. chips, nuts in excess, popcorn made the old fashioned way...). I know I need to change my food choices but is it necessary to change when I eat also?
The first couple days I made a conscious effort to eat throughout the day, the 5 small meals, I got about 1600 calories into me doing that but I literally felt like I was forcing myself to eat, I wasn't hungry (I never have been first thing in the morning on the whole, rather quite the opposite, eating first thing in the morning makes me nauseous).
So 1600 calories over the day is good right? ... not when you are hungry when you would normally eat, I can see this being an issue but is it an avoidable issue?
Yesterday was my first day using the FitDay Calorie counter, I didn't force myself to eat during the day, just my morning coffee then ate when I was hungry, which was at supper time. The thought crossed my mind that I "shouldn't be eating at nite and by 10pmish I realized I had only taken in just under 500 calories so I had an orange, bagel, cream cheese and a pickle (Yes I know .. a pickle with that ??? I can eat a pickle with ANYTHING ) When all was said and done my total calorie intake for the day was 912cal. This can't be good.
So is this pattern to my eating considered Intermittent Fasting or am I doing it alllll wrong? I've done some googling on it and most of what I've found says the fasting periods are 24 and 48 hours of just water ... I'll keep researching but if anyone has any input that would be awesome
