Sport insulin spiking

Sport Fitness
I find the whole insulin thing really complicated!

In a previous thread it mentioned INSULIN SPIKING. Trying to get my head around that.

Can someone tell me... For breakfast I usually have some ALLBRAN with chopped up apples & cinnamon - yum! But is that likely to cause spiking?

No. Simple carbs cause insulin spikes, such as sugar, white bread etc.

There will be a mild increase in insulin from that meal, as happens when any food is eaten, but it won't be the unhealthy spike caused by simple carbs.

Hmm, but what about the apples? They have fructose in them, though being natural sugars, they are still a form of sugar. I would think that would do a little more than a little to insulin?

But ive heard, if ur gonna have fruit, have it in the mornings.

Yes, the apples will cause a mild insulin spike, but nothing to worry about. That's a very healthy meal to eat actually. Do you have any protein with it?

Protein = just semiskimmed milk. (I water it down a bit because my husband won't let me buy skimmed milk!)
Is this okay?

Hmmm, that's a pretty trivial amount of protein. How about a smaller portion of your allbran and apples with some egg whites, low fat turkey bacon, or fat free cottage cheese? That would be a little more balanced. Good to balance carbs and protein in each meal.

The key is to spike your insulin immedialty after weight training, utilizing a simple carb and whey protein.

The simple carb will replenish muscle glycogen and shuttle protein to the muscles that are in dire need of it post workout, to begin the repair/rebuild cycle.

That breakfast is fine. Don't worry about it causing an insulin spike. If you eat a bit more protein with that meal it was cause less of a spike. It will also keep you fuller longer.

I know the other post you are talking about. It's all about KISS- Keep It Simple Silly. :)

One protein and one complex carb is all you need :)

I've read pear is good for this, mixed into your shake. Tastes pretty good as well :p

Pear is only about 38 on the Glycemic chart where as dextrose is up around 100. Dextrose is far more optimal to replenish muscle glycogen than a pear would be.

having some fruit is good after training, but it shouldnt compromise a huge portion of carbs on the meal.
