Inspirations

i thought itd be tight if people could post a few namese of people that inspired them be who they are/ achieve there goals etc...

most of my inspiration comes from musicians but im gunna have to say right off the bat pele.

My biggest inspiration was my wood-shop teacher from last year. Mr Begelman. He was a mentor and a friend as well as a teacher. His class was about so much more than just making stuff out of wood. He taught me not to be so hard on myself and not to be so worried about what others think of me. He was quite simply my best teacher ever, he was a friend and a source of support when I needed it. He supported all of his students unconditionally as if they were his own children. More people should be like him.

It's good this thread came up, because I have to get back in touch with him soon. I've been working on a guitar, and I'm going to have all of the parts soon. He's invited me to come back to my old high school to work on it until I finish it.

Now if you're looking for famous people who have inspired me, well, my list is small. I'm a guitartist, so I have a few favorites. They are Jimmy Page, David Gilmour and Jerry Garcia. Another celebrity that inspired me was Jon Stewart (but of course, everyone here already knows I love him). Before I discovered his show, I hated politics. Now I'm actually in to them. His show helped me survive my horrendous AP comparative government class last year. Nothing like a little humor to spice up the normally boring and dry world of world politics.

I used to be a whuss. I was the tall skinny guy, that was enough for me to be motivated to start trainig.

Other than that, I'm motivated by wanting to get accepted into Goergns yellow t-shirt training club :D

He looks damn seksy in that yellow t-shirt :luxlove:

My inspirational character is Jane Tomlinson. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer and given months to live she started training to run a marathon in the hope of giving her toddler son something to be proud of her for.

To cut a long story short, that marathon turned into a few marathons, then into a half iron man, followed shortly after by becoming the first terminally ill person to complete a FULL Iron Man. Her last acheivement was cycling the entire length of America. She got an extra 7 years out of her life after being told she had months left

She taught me that there are no excuses

Her son being presented with her post-humous CBE from Prince Charles, I think she succeeded in giving her son something to be proud of her for

Terry Fox.

Terry was a fellow Canadian.

Terry ran the equivalent of a marathon ( 26 miles ) a day - running on one artificial leg no less - for 143 consecutive days.

He ran his ' Marathon of Hope " across Canada in 1980 to raise funds for cancer research - but had to stop his run early when his cancer returned - after running 3,339 miles on one leg. He died in 1981 from cancer.

I had a chance to see Terry in person on day 93 of his Marathon as he ran through my home town - it was July 13, 1980 - a day I will never forget. Seeing him and saying hello to Terry changed my life forever. Anytime I think I've had a hard workout, or that I'm in great shape, or that life is getting me down - I think of Terry. When I think of a role model for my 4 kids in terms of setting goals, courage, guts, stamina, determination, discipline, and selflessness - I tell them about Terry.

When I coaching and motivating my hockey players, I often refer to Terry. I tell them to remember Terry as THE role model of someone who believed in himself, someone who believed he could do anything - no matter how daunting or impossible a goal seemed, someone who had the will to never give up - and to always have hope.

I've coached a lot of kids who are in disadvantaged situations, whether it stems from: extreme poverty, physical disability, developmental disability, or simply having been dealt a tough hand in life.

That is what inspires me to press on, fight hard, and challenge myself to achieve my goals. Because I know that I - thankfully - don't know the first thing about what it really means to be challenged and still overcome & achieve.
