Increasing Frquency of Gym Sessions

Hey,

So after about 1 year of training Of going ot the gym 3 times a week and training my whole body I have decided to go 5 times M,T,W,T,F.
because I have finished school and have plenty of time to train.

So I was wondering If it would be a good idea to train different muscles on each day so ie. arms one day then chest another day and eventually cycke back round again

thanks for any replies im new:p

Hi NORBUZ,

Welcome to the forum, i am new here myself.

I found this great website that helped me get the most out of working out. The guys name is Scooby, he has a website designed to help body builders. On his site there is a workout generator that creates you a workout depending on a lot of factors.

He also talks about when to train and over training. That could be something you might want to look at.

If i remember correctly his Advanced Workout plan (Under Mens Workout Plans in the navigation bar) gives you a different body part/muscle to work on everyday with a list of exercises for you to do on that body part.

To find his site search "scoobysworkshop" and it is the first link.

Hope this helps you out and let me know if i have been of any use.

Thanks

Boldonglen

Yes, you should be training different muscles every day. If you don't leave at least 24-48 hours in between training a muscle group, then your muscles won't have the time they need to recover and build up.

And in terms of overtraining, you'll want to take regular maintenance weeks. Every 4-6 weeks or so is common, and during this time, you can bring down your exercise intensity and workload by 75% without losing progress.

You haven't mentioned your goals, so there's no way to accurately answer this question, IMO. The standard answer of splitting up the muscle groups over the 5 days is fair for bodybuilding purposes. But you haven't stated that that's your goal. Depending on your goals as well as a horde of other factors, maybe you'd do well to keep doing fullbody 3x/wk and do cardio on the other 2 days. Maybe you'd do well to do a push/pull or upper/lower split twice a week and cardio on the remaining day. Maybe you should do fullbody 5 days a week. Olympic weightlifters often train their whole body at a high intensity for several hours a day, 6 days a week, although it takes a long time (and possibly some illegal substances) to build up to being able to handle that workload.

Weight lifting 5 times a week doesn't seem like a smart idea. Especially if your gonna isolate most of your muscles. For best results, stick to compound movement.

A better program would be:
Mon - Upper Body
Tues - Lower body
Wed - Off
Thurs - Upper Body
Fri - Lower body
Weekend - off

Or you could decide to:
Mon - Chest/Shoulders/Triceps
Tues - Cardio or HIIT
Wed - Legs
Thurs - Cardio or HIIT
Fri - Back/Biceps
Weekend - Off

Why doesn't it sound like a smart idea? Plenty of people lift five times a week, and the best way to do that IS to isolate a different muscle group every day.
